Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"These stories were made possible by the people who sat and listened to them, and I am very grateful for their patience. From the stage, they appear so calm and handsome and hopeful, I wish I could sit with them and wait for whatever it is they're waiting for. They remind me of the people (including me) who used to sit around and listen to Uncle Lew Powell reel off a few. This batch was done in memory of that dear man and of other greats I've known whom God gave a powerful affection for humankind, and the gift of gab."

-- Garrison Keillor, 1983 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer classics from Lake Wobegon, October 18, 1998
This review is from: Summer: Stories from the Collection News from Lake Wobegon (Audio CD)
Amongst the wonderful "News from Lake Wobegon" collections, this stands high as a personal favourite. Apart from the classic "Lving Flag" and "Tomato Butt", "The Tollefson Boy goes to College" and "Mrs Berge and the Schubert Carillon Piano" [with brilliant impersonations of the carillon piano] are strong, mixing acute observation of the humour, tedium and sadness of everyday life with just enough exaggeration to provide comic relief.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Fun, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Summer: Stories from the Collection News from Lake Wobegon (Audio CD)
We listened as we traveled when our kids were 10 and 8. They laughed as much as we. The stories are built on timeless universal experiences we all share and forget about until we listen to them artfully and tenderly told back to us by someone like Keilor.

We had the set of four on each of the seasons and enjoyed each story every time we played it...over and over and over. Enjoy!
