4.0 out of 5 stars continues the Baxter saga

1.0 out of 5 stars I ordered LARGE PRINT and I got regular print.
I ordered five Karen Kingsbury books for my Mom in LARGE PRINT and we received four out of five in regular print. SUMMER was one of the incorrect print types. We live overseas so I had to ship the books to my daughter in Nebraska and then she shipped them to me in American Samoa. Shipping costs us a whole bunch more than the actual books. So we can't afford to return...

4.0 out of 5 stars continues the Baxter saga, August 22, 2007
This review is from: Summer (Sunrise Series-Baxter 3, Book 2) (Paperback)
Newlyweds Dayne and Katy Matthews are enjoying their new status as much as they are teaming on a movie as he stars her with him in his next film so he can feel right about the love scenes. However, once they begin filming, the couple finds their euphoric Bloomington, Indiana existence exposed under the bright lights of Hollywood.

Ashley Baxter Blake was already in heaven when she learned she was pregnant; however she is even more elated that her best friend her sister Kari is also carrying. She dreams of their two children bonding beyond just being first cousins; she wants them to become buddies like she and Kari have been. However, Ashley's doctor provides her distressing information about the fetus she carries that makes her reconsider everything she once believed in including God.

The latest Sunrise family drama tale continues the Baxter saga although a third subplot starring their neighbors the Flanagans somewhat progresses also. The subplots rotate lead, but each is character driven. Dayne and Katy find their marriage too exposed to the demands of the media who cannot let go of the small town Midwest girl finding love with the prince of Hollywood. Ashley and Kari struggle with pregnancies especially the joys and setback that occur. Finally Bailey Flanagan and her family's border Cody Coleman begin to widen their friendship. As always in this fine series, it is the characters that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her most emotionally gripping story yet!, September 26, 2007
This review is from: Summer (Sunrise Series-Baxter 3, Book 2) (Paperback)
Karen has done it again! She's hooked me on her series. Now I've finished Summer and am awaiting the next installment in early 2008 and I'm going to be thinking about this story all the time until I find out what happens next. There are just enough loose ends to make you crave the next book and enough issues resolved that you don't want to throw the book at the wall. This story was a sad one but also very touching and healing. The author did a great job drawing me in to the story and I felt the emotion. She is truly an expert at making your heart connect with her characters. I want to be a Baxter. They have an awesome, yet realistic family with real-life problems. One of the underlying themes of this book is the importance of communication. The author shows the fallout when people close off their hearts to each other and she also shows the beauty of allowing God's will and not fighting it. This was one of the most emotionally touching stories Kingsbury has written. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible, August 29, 2007
This review is from: Summer (Sunrise Series-Baxter 3, Book 2) (Paperback)
I agree with the person who said Karen Kingsbury out did herself in this one. I was tryng to read this book slowly, because I recently discovered Christian Fiction about 4-5 months ago. I feel like God brought Karen and her "life-changing" books into my life for a definite reason. So, I was trying to read it slow, because waiting for the next book to be published just "kills" me. Since I am a new reader, I got spoiled by being introduced to the Baxters only a few months ago and I constantly read and read to catch up. Once I finished one book, I already had the other waiting on the nightstand. Now that I am caught up, I don't know how you guys do it waiting for months to see what happens next...I am only just learning to deal with it. Anyhow, when I started reading, I could have sworn I knew how it would end...I would have bet money on it if I were a bettin' woman, but to my surprise and regret, I had no idea what a ride I was in for. This has be one of the best books I have read of hers. It truly touched my soul...and my life and thinking did indeed change as a result. As far as reading it slowly, I gave that up by the third night. I stayed up until 3am, crying like I haven't cried in a very long time. Great, great, great!!!! I wish someone like FoxFaith would take on the task of turning the Baxters (from book 1 on) into a series drama for Christian and non-christians alike. These books may say "Fiction", but the situations are REAL.

This is an incredible addition to the Sunrise Series. I highly recommend all of the Kingsbury/Smalley books, the Redemption Series, then the Kingsbury books, the Firstborn Series and finally the Sunrise Series. They are all wonderful, Christian stories of love and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Receives Sandra Burr's seasoned, warm reading voice, October 6, 2007
Karen Kingsbury's SUMMER receives Sandra Burr's seasoned, warm reading voice as it tells of a summer of new beginnings, which come from marriage, pregnancy, and a reality show which threatens a solid marriage. It's another 'Baxter Family' drama, #2 in the 'Sunrise Series', and is especially recommended for prior fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful book from Karen Kingsbury, October 1, 2007

This review is from: Summer (Sunrise Series-Baxter 3, Book 2) (Paperback)
This latest book in the Sunrise Series about the lives of the Baxters from Karen Kingsbury did not disappoint me .It was one of the most thought provoking story lines yet .Ashley was told that she would have a baby with a profound fatal birh defect .Her sister , Brook, is a doctor and looks at things from a medical standpoint and this puts her at odds with her faith and Ashley's beliefs when she tries to influence Ashley to take the easier ( as she sees it) way out.It is a beautiful story with issues that we all deal with at one time or another in our lives .Karen's books teach us how to look at life biblically and prayerfuly.I can't tell you what a huge impact her writings have had on my life.

This book by Karen Kingsbury is probably one of the hardest that I've read. I will admit that I bawled my eyes out while reading it, so be prepared. It's a must read for Karen Kingsbury fans though!
