Review

“While thumbing through the pages, we think you’ll agree, this labor of love was definitely worth the wait.” ~Atlantan Magazine

“The book goes way beyond a typical cookbook. It takes you through the seasons with recipes, entertaining ideas, and more. The photography is stunning. I recommend her beautiful book…” ~Magnoliadays.com

Best Cookbooks of 2013. [One of 8 outstanding cookbooks every home cook should own] We made our criteria simple and home cook-centered: Cookbooks should have good storytelling that sets the food in context, instructions that are clear, and a visual sensibility that invites and inspires. A truly great cookbook should both challenge and comfort you, but most important, it should get used in the kitchen. So go ahead, splatter and stain those pages…” ~Epicurious

“...She nurtures a deeply rooted philosophy that focuses on simplicity and the finest fresh ingredients. This exceptional recipe collection focuses on seasonal celebratory menus for each month of the year.” ~Victoria Magazine

“If you’re starting to think about holiday shopping, this is, hands down, the one cookbook to give Atlanta food lovers this year.” ~Atlanta Magazine

“In Summerland, Anne Quatrano has surely created a cause to celebrate with Southern hospitality. I have known Anne for 20 years, and her sensibility and flair for cooking wonderful Southern food is ever present. I have a deep passion for, and love of discovering the foods throughout America, and my inquisitive palate is simply enchanted by down home, feel good, Southern comfort food. Anne has a consciousness of the land, and its rich abundance of product, and in this beautiful book, she shares her elegantly gutsy cooking, all the while staying true to her southern roots. Congratulations Anne!” ~Lidia Bastianich, author of Lidia’s Favorite Recipes

“As one of the first restaurateurs to transform a reverence for traditional cooking into a fresh, modern style, Anne Quatrano has inspired and nurtured a generation of young chefs. We can now bring Quatrano’s unique brand of all-embracing southern hospitality-the artistry of the entire table, every element and every detail-to our own celebrations. After reading Summerland, we can say with certainty that our entertaining will never be the same!” ~Matt Lee and Ted Lee, authors of The Lee Bros. Charleston Kitchen

“I have known Anne for almost two decades and have had both the pleasure of eating her food and visiting Summerland. In this exquisitely photographed book she captures the spirit and essence of her farm, her cooking, and her entertaining style. Anne’s Southern roots, her Northern upbringing, and her generous personality make her food truly unique. I have always been awed by Anne; her delicious food and her seemingly effortless yet perfect sense of style. Now I can have a bit of Anne in my own home.” Emily Luchetti, author of The Fearless Baker

 “Summerland
serves as the backdrop for seasonal soirees and recipes which personify the South’s markedly refined yet relaxed style.” ~Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles

This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever read or seen. The recipes are concise and simple to read plus the fact that they have such a cozy comfort food at it's best. The photos are beautiful and I can't believe how many there are. It's meticulously detailed and possibly the most beautiful cookbook I have. I have hundreds of cookbooks. I've eaten at Bacchanalia in Atlanta many times… It truly rocks!!! I remember Chef Quatrano's restaurant here in New York. She's the best comfort food chef, period!!!

Long overdue, Anne's book "Summerland" (named for her farm northwest of Atlanta), is based on anne and clifford's decades of cooking at restaurants that have defined and raised Atlanta to national status. And with Bachannalia, rank among the best in the US. Plus their amazing work building and running Star provisions, with one of the best cheese, meat and pastry shops (the cheese shop alone - you have to go to europe to do better - and I am a New Yorker!). Here, Anne keeps it informal, as she cooks at her home, which make it accessble to everyone for your family or entertaining. Beautifully done - the book is legible, with clear readable type, stunning photographs and layout to support the terrific recipes. Just as their restaurant Floataway Cafe near Emory has a slight Italian bent, and Bachannalia leans a bit southern with euro/california/asian influences, and Abbatoir a focus befitting its name regarding meats (and perhaps european influence in that way) - judging any of anne's work in that narrow context misses the point. While this book is southern - anyone of anne's tops in the US skill and stature's work is infused with her history and an understanding and appreciation of the culinary arts around the world. Have been eating and buying her culinary delights for 15 years - its not Saturday if your aren't at Star Provisions. For me, the clarity in her cooking is what has always stood out - its like perfect alchemy. And now its something we can do at home...hopefully this is just the first installment. Whether eating at one of her restaurants, or buying food at Star...it's one of those things that just makes life more enjoyable. This book does too.

I bought this cookbook because it had recipes for curing meats. It has so much more than just that. I want to have a party now and use some of her recipes and menus for friends on family. Not only does the author and her husband own and run 4 restaurants, they also grow a large quantity of their produce on their farm.

Beautiful presentation; outstanding menus and the description and background on the individual recipes makes them feel as if your grandmother or favorite aunt is sharing the kitchen with you. All together an outstanding offering even if you do not cook.

I bought this book for one of my best friends that is a super fan of Ann Quatrano and her cooking. The book was cheaper than buying it at her flagship store, and of course it was just like the ones she sells there.

Beautiful pictures of the dishes she teaches you how to make, and the hard back book makes it look so nice and sturdy, instead of a paperback recipe book. I even went to the flagship store and had Ann Quatrano sign it before I gifted it to my friend.

This is a perfect kitchen counter display book, or even coffee table book. The cover visually pleasing all the heirloom tomatoes! You can definitely judge this book by its cover!

Anne is legend in Metro Atlanta and for good reason. That aside, this cookbook with its focus on holiday and special event menus, including everything from cocktails to desserts, is a rare beauty.
