Book Description

Julie Kagawa's bestselling series The Iron Fey captivated the imagination—and hearts—of readers of all ages with its mix of magic, fantasy and romance. Now, readers can enjoy a special novella from one of Julie's most beloved characters, Puck!

A Midsummer's Nightmare?

Robin Goodfellow. Puck. Summer Court prankster, King Oberon's right hand, bane of many a faery queen's existence—and secret friend to Prince Ash of the Winter Court. Until one girl's death came between them, and another girl stole both their hearts.

Now Ash has granted one favor too many and someone's come to collect, forcing the prince to a place he cannot go without Puck's help—into the heart of the Summer Court. Puck faces the ultimate choice—betray Ash and possibly win the girl they both love, or help his former friend turned bitter enemy pull off a deception that no true faery prankster could possibly resist.

Don't miss the next chapter of the Iron Fey saga, The Lost Prince.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I've found a new favorite author August 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is my first look at Julie Kagawa's work; I rarely pass up a free read. Most of them sit on my Kindle until I'm bored in between other books, though, but I dove right into this one. I've adored Puck ever since reading Midsummer Night's Dream in high school. Needless to say I devoured it in one day and will be getting hold of the rest of the series ASAP. I don't feel like I missed out on anything reading this short story out of order, at least nothing I couldn't pick up on by reading the blurbs for the other books. I thoroughly enjoyed this look through Puck's eyes and am anxiously waiting to learn more about Ash and the Winter court. If you enjoy tales of the Fae, you will not be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, melancholy bridge to Iron Knight June 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having just left Meghan behind, Ash and Puck are searching for Grimalkin, the enigmatic cat that's popped in and out to help them all whenever they've needed it on their journey. As they're about to begin, they're interrupted by Leanansidhe, Queen of the Exiles, who's come to collect on the bargain she made with Ash. She wants him to sneak into the Summer Court and retrieve something Queen Titania stole from her. It should be a task impossible for a Winter Prince but he's with Puck, a powerful Summer fae who loves nothing more than to make trouble for his Queen.

The long-troubled relationship between Ash and Puck had worsened when both fell in love with Meghan, but a truce had been called while they tried to find a way to help her. On their way to the Summer Court, Puck is unexpectedly offered the chance to force Meghan's decision. He's been given a choice - betray Ash and win her by default or ignore the offer and let Meghan decide.

I've really grown to love this series. The first book hooked me because it was so wildly imaginative and while pieces of individual books didn't work for me, as a whole, it's been an amazing journey.

I didn't care much for the first novella because it seemed a little out of place with the characters acting oddly. Summer's Crossing is completely different. It has a sweet, melancholy feeling to it that reflects the way The Iron Queen ended. Ash is a little more brooding and quiet and while Puck plays the irreverent fool like he always has, there's an undertone of sadness. This trip to the Summer Court is a perfect way to force them to work together, argue and get back some of their comfortable animosity and rivalry. Puck and Ash just aren't the same unless they're at each other's throats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fans of The Iron Fey will love this!! June 16, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
SUMMER'S CROSSING, by Julie Kagawa, is the second novella in The Iron Fey series, but this time we get Robin Goodfellow's/Puck's POV instead. Ash enlists Puck's help to find Grimalkin but someone requests the fulfillment of a favor from Ash. Puck and Ash have to take something from the Summer Queen, Titania, and make it out alive...somehow.

I really loved getting Puck's POV in this novella. His sarcasm and wit always made me smile, but getting into his head showed that his personality is much deeper than being a jokster. The internal struggle for him after a visit from the Summer King, Oberon, amped up the tension and suspense in what Puck would ultimately decided to do with the prince who stole the heart of his beloved Meghan. Definitely a heart-pounder!

Josh Hurley did an awesome job narrating Puck. His voice was smooth and perfect for the pranking Puck. Also, he did a really great job voicing the other characters too.

Overall, this is definitely a must-read for fans of The Iron Fey series. It is full of adventure, suspense, and opens up the story for the highly anticipated next full book of the series, The Iron Knight.

3.0 out of 5 stars Will read more. January 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I prefer fantasy that's darker but it was good. A story about two friends turned enemies who are forced to work together. One just happens to be the Frost Prince of fey & the other the legendary trickster Puck. Forced to complete a favore to Queen Mab the Frost Prince is sent into the heart of the Summer court. Which can only be done with the help of a once friend he has now sworn to someday kill. While the Trickster is handed a secret task from the King. I'll be going back to get the other stories in this series at some point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Team Puck Fans - THIS Is For US! November 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I didn't think things could get any better after THE IRON QUEEN but boy was I wrong. SUMMER'S CROSSING is what every Puck fan has dreamed for. Though its only 79 pages long, it's the best 79 pages I've read! This is a novella told from Puck's point of view and you know it's going to make you laugh.

Puck decides to join Prince Ash on his journey to find a way to be with Meghan in the Iron Kingdom but first the Exiled Queen decides now is a good time for Ash to make good on his promise to her. Someone has stolen her precious violin and she wants Ash to get it back because she's not allowed in Nevernever. Turns out the Summer Queen has stolen it as they've been enemies for centuries, which means Puck is useful after all.

I just couldn't stop smiling and laughing the entire time I was reading this. To know someone like Puck in real life would be an absolute joy, you have no idea. Ash is in for an ear full during his longer journey in THE IRON KNIGHT, that's for sure!

I've also mentioned and strongly suggested buying the audiobook for this novella and I'm sticking to it. I've never purchased one before but when I met Julie in August, she told me I needed to hear it (seeing as I'm a Puck girl) and man, she was NOT lying. It's voiced by Joshua Hurley and he is absolutely perfect, dead on, for Puck's voice. It will cost you less than $5 to purchase this - it's worth the $5, I promise.

If you've read the other Iron Fey books, you should read this. It's short, sweet and humorous - very enjoyable.
