Astounding music from the inimitable Mr. Clark, February 9, 2003

Wow! Who knew funk's favorite rhythm maker (and the most sampled drummer in hip hop) could lay it down in the jazz vein like this? Having caught his New York gigs over the years, I knew, but it seems to have been a secret in the larger music community. This is simply one of the most stunning works to come out this year. The title track is an uncanny rendition of an old favorite and Angelica haunts. Beautiful work by Jack Walrath and Chris Potter. Billy Childs, another undersung hero, smokes. Cookin'! I highly recommend.
