4.0 out of 5 stars An update of a classic summer song, March 23, 2002

This review is from: In the Summertime (Audio CD)
Everybody should have heard this classic summer song at one point or another in their lives, so no doubt you'll know who Mungo Jerry is. This CD single, "In The Summertime" features three updated remixes of the title song. Although the new version are acceptable, the purists will be happy to discover the original - and best - version is tagged on at the end. This is the one I prefer to play. Not a bad effort though.

Jon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes Jug Band music to a new level.., June 4, 2000

The first time I listened to this LP back in the 60's I thought I died and went to heaven and they played jugband music there. I never heard a kazoo used with so much style, the honkytonk piano and the songs.. Maggie, San Francisco Bay Blues, Baby Let's Play House.. awesome. This album is one of a kind.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest LP I heard in my life, August 31, 1998

This is a legend of pop music. Such things as " Maggie", "Jonny B. Badde", "Tramp" already for a long time are my favorite songs. The finest sounds produced without drums and with using the whole set of the music instruments, such as kazoo is the discovery for a man who wants to perform them just playing acoustic guitar with employing kazoo and lip harmonicas - they sound wonderful and I did it repeatedly with unchanged success. I love Mungo Jerry but I need the original texts of their songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was so excited to find this!, December 7, 1998

The works of Mungo Jerry are so obsure that I thought I would never find it on CD. I've got my Mungo Jerry on vinyl that I've been keeping for nearly 30 years and I would only play it to make tape copies; I didn't want to wear it out. I was really happy to find it at Amazon.com. In all the years I've owned this album I've never heard anything like it; this is a very unique album. I was also glad to discover that the CD version has "Mighty Man" on it. I had this only on two very scratched 45's. (It was on the flip side of "In the Summertime.") I can't pick a favorite song; but if I had to choose, I would say "Maggie." This is a very different and truely great album.

Mungo Jerry still gets a lot of play around Chicago "In the Summertime.. ." I bought this CD at the request of my kids, ages 5 and 8, who heard the song and begged to have it. Imagine my surprise when the CD arrived and I found that the fifth song, an instrumental, is listed on the liner and CD as "Motherf--ker blues" only without the blanks. Really a shock, since the CD is full of bouncy and kid-friendly music. So, bottom line: it's cute music; parents, get out your indelible markers. . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique..., September 17, 2001

This album was issued in 1970 (in the US on the Janus label) on an unsuspecting audience of Dead-heads, Beatlemania and the like. This album is strictly fun, and features jugband music with such instruments as acoustic bass, kazoo, banjo and guitars of course. Featuring their well known tune I think you'll find yourself listening to the rest of the disc possibly more than the hit. This was additionally issued as part of a 2-on-1 set by BGO Records which featured their second album "Electronically Tested".
