Surprising, and Better than Expected, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Summertime (Audio CD)
NKOTB are definitely back! Or are they actually new? All they have said in their interviews about this album being different because they were calling the shots now is absolutely right. With "The Block," you have a more mature outlook of life--and let's face it, they are adult men who have lived their lives beyond NKOTB. They are sharing their experiences and giving their adult fans what they want. Their music is now unique, different from anything I have ever heard, and there are various genres represented in each song--from R&B, pop, soul, rock, and even some rap (the clean kind). While I don't necessarily recommend the album for kids--after all, the point was to show a maturity that they didn't have way back when (and yes, that means sex)--there is nothing so explicit that it detracts for those 13-18 year olds. All in all, there is very little to object to, no cussing, no one killing anyone else, no women being objectified. Much better than most of the stuff out there.
When it comes to the actual songs, the beats are great, the harmonies are spot on, and the voices that we loved as kids have matured exponentially. The longer I listen to this album, the more I love it.

Disappointing, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Summertime (Audio CD)
My daughter wanted and waited for this for so long, but when it arrived, it was not what she had expected. The lyrics are much too explicit. She never even listened to the whole CD. She has always loved this group, and she was not happy with what they have evolved into.
