Summit's Best Tree Stand the 180 Max SD is a climbing tree stand and what makes it so great is that the seat mounts forward or facing the tree. When facing the tree the tree stand is much easier and much faster to climb up and down. It is well padded and after sitting all day 20 feet above the ground there is no soreness in the legs or back. It is so easy that if you don't like the tree you chose simply climb down within seconds, find another tree and climb up in minutes. The cable locks assure you won't disengage from the tree and break your neck and there are plenty of storage pockets for rope, ammo, or your sandwich and water bottle. The wider than standard size still weighs in at only 26 pounds and the straps make it easy to carry in and out with little effort.

When I get too old to hunt from a tree stand I am positive that my son will enjoy the Summit 180 Max SD Climbing Tree stand for years and years. It holds tight to the tree and has a 350 pound load capacity. It is also whisper quiet that the deer will never hear you getting into or out of your stand. I highly recommend this product. It may cost more than your standard climbing tree stands but product quality and my safety are more important than saving a few bucks.

The stand is sturdy and comfortable but it will not go up a small enough tree to suit me. The main thing I did not like is that the climbing bar you sit on it so far away from the tree that I can only climb in short little baby hops. That makes it too long up and down. If you look at the dimensions you will see that the top is far longer than that on the viper. I sold this one and ordered a Goliath since I was favorably impressed overall with the stand. I have short legs, if you are long legged you will probably love it. Offers good support for the rifle facing either way.

Climbs well, comfortable to sit in, being able to rotate 180 is a very nice feature.... however, it's somewhat bulky to carry, and noisy to carry in and set up. Better to set it up the day before, so early-AM ingress is quieter. The metal itself is filled with a noise-dampening substance, which makes climbing quiet, but the way you're expected to carry the climber causes the bars of the upper and lower units to "clang" together as you walk.

I really like this tree stand, my old one was a summit traditional all steel 21 lbs dry and felt like it was 90 lbs wet. This replacement is much lighter as advertised, the seat is comfortable, and the teeth seem to grab much better on the tree. Some people say this seat is too comfortable, I have to only slightly agree, its pretty easy to fall asleep. However, I haven't had my legs fall asleep yet, which helps a very still hunter avoid blood clots from stiff seats cutting off circulation while holding their body in awkward positions or while sitting on really stiff seats. The bar across the front also seems to help make one feel safe from falling out. My previous stand didn't have a bar across the front.

The areas of improvement I wish they would make to this stand are: Include the drop blind. Include a {possibly welded on} bracket for the treestand bow holder so its coated with the 'dead metal coating' or whatever it was called. Include the string for raising and lowering your weapon of choice. Weld some hooks on the inside of the outer oval for the foot platform to wrap your raising and lowering string for storage as well as somewhere to hang a backpack on the stand without having to stretch the shoulder straps across the top. This would really help lower the center of gravity when backpacking it. The shoulder straps are adjustable and it seems like sometimes these can loosen up if you load too much stuff into your back pack. That's a sneaky problem because the back will slide down and then your boots will start hitting the teeth on the business end of the climber.

The only bad thing about this stand, and I think its possibly a fault of any stand, is there is no where to carry your weapon quietly at your side.

I just purchased this stand because someone stole my old API grandslam. I tried it out in the back yard and it is going to be very hard to stay awake in this stand. It is very comfortable and climbs well. It has a ton of room and for a person with long legs like myself it is perfect. No more cramped climbing stand hunts. I would recommend having this stand setup the day before the hunt though because it is a little bulky to carry. Overall great stand though.

Fairly light, and easy to use. Very comfortable to sit in (4-5 hrs at a time). I used the included safety harness - you feel very secure sitting and standing, but I suppose there is always the possibility the chair or platform could slip. The two pieces fit together nicely and the back pack straps make it easy to carry to and from you hunting spot. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the plastic stirrups for raising/lowering the platform. A couple guys on my hunt had some older climbers which also had plastic stirrups, so must not be an issue.
