This is a tremendous idea for kids who follow Dino Dan on Nick Jr. I got this vest and a few of the tools as gifts for my son's 4th birthday. I gave it to him at the natural history museum so he could play paleontologist. He loved it and didn't want to take it off. There are a lot of pockets which is awesome to secure all his treasures and fossils.

The reason I am unable to give this vest a 5 star rating is because the construction. Now I realize this vest wasn't made with a 4 year old in mind -- it is very loose on him. But that doesn't bother me. The material is nylon not cotton so so the structure of the garment is flimsy, but that doesn't bother me. There's an essential field guide that list all the other merchandise that he now wants me to buy, but that doesnt bother me.

What does bother me is the see thru plastic pocket for the field guide. It doesn't have a snap closure which bothers my son so he's come up with his own fix for that issue. He tucked the flap into the pocket to secure the booklet. However, the nylon used to sew the plastic facing into place has started to fray and now the pocket has a huge tear down the side.

I am more that a little annoyed with the shoddy craftmanship. This is a vest for children. Some degree of effort should be place in its durablity. Its a wonderful idea it that it inspires kids to play and learn. But for $19.99 I expect he should get more than a weeks worth of play time.

I just wanted to let people know that when I went to order this vest for my daughters play, it never stated a size. When we received it, I was relieved that it did fit, but not for long. She is in second grade and 8 years old and wears a size 10. If anyone is bigger then her, don't buy. But I would size the vest to fit from a size 6 to a size 10 to be safe. Hope this helps, they really should let people know the size before you purchase and not just one size fits all.

This cargo vest was a gift for my 5 year old 'paleontologist'. There are lots of metal loops to clip things onto (he has tools from other sets) and the wide assortment of pockets are roomy and varied. The oversized zipper seems durable enough, but he has a difficult time zipping it himself, as it's a little stiff. Perhaps over time it will get smoother. We weren't pleased with the quality of this company's tool sets (binoculars, etc.) so instead got a set of the National Geographic binocs, flashlight, compass and magnifier. They fit perfectly in the pockets, and he has room to spare for other treasures. All in all, my son loves this and I'm happy with the fit (slightly large) and the durability. He's actually wearing it to school today...

I purchased this vest for my 4 year old son who is going to be a "safari man" for Halloween. I wanted something durable enough to use far past Halloween. He loves all the pockets and has plans for everything he can tuck into them. It's a tad bit big for him, but he doesn't mind; it gives us plenty of room to layer a coat under it. Overall it perfect for our situation. The rating system for this isn't really fair because it's considered a toy. It's much more practical than that.

My 6 year old grandson is on the tall slim side and this vest just fits him. He loves it but I'm concerned that he won't be able to wear it for long and they don't offer a bigger size. This company is missing the boat if they don't offer more sizes and certainly more accurate information about fit. My grandson wears a size 7-8 in a regular shirt. Hope this helps.

I purchased this item for my 10 year old to be a game warden for Halloween. It is a nice vest with lots of cool pockets. He enjoyed wearing it and it did complete his look. However, it said it fit up to age 12years. It was a little tight on him and definitely could not be worn for two more years.

I bought this for my granddaughter who is 4. She loves it! A surprise to me, the activity for her party was a nature walk. What luck! Her brother who is 6 called right away to request one for his birthday. I must admit the vest is really too large for my granddaughter--if only I could sew.
