Great Live Performance, February 14, 2007
This review is from: Summit Reunion: Recorded Live in Hamburg 1994 (Audio CD)
It's nice to hear Wilber and Davern stretch out on this beautifully recorded concert performance. By this time the two were comfortably familiar with each others playing. To keep it interesting, they seemed to take more than a few chances when soloing. This, of course, is great for you, the listener. It's also obvious that the British rhythm section of Dave Cliff: guitar, Dave Green: bass, and Bobby Worth: drums was up and running for the occasion. They help enormously in making this a well above average session. I would single out Dave Green's contributions here as tremendous, but his playing on so many records is fantastic. Dave Cliff has also played marvellously on so many records. There's even a cd of Mr. Cliff with Howard Alden(on Zepher)that may open some guitar players eyes. Bobby Worth has been playing a tasteful timekeepers role for years. He's played on dozens of sessions, many of them with visiting Americans and all of them prime examples of hot, swinging, mainstream jazz. This one is recommended on all counts: performance(electrifying concert), sound quality, and total time.
