3.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful Not To Under-rate This., January 2, 2006
By
Motion (Carrollton Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Summit (Audio CD)
I know some may be critical of this CD because of it's more synthesized sounds. But to under-rate this CD for that reason could be a mistake because most of the tracks when taken by themselves still sound good. I remember hearing one of the tracks on the radio back when the album first came out and thought that the song was tight. This is what made me want to get this CD. I agree that they could have used more variety when it came to the drum rhythms, but the drums work for each song imo,and the basslines are good on most of the songs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Disappointing..., January 20, 2001
This review is from: Summit (Audio CD)
I love reggae music immensely(Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, even the now-more-pop oriented UB40). So, I thought I would add Sly & Robbie's 1988 effort to my colllection. I only knew a little bit about them having worked with the late and great R&B songstress Gwen Guthrie on her 1982 self-titled debut album. However, the project they produced for Guthrie was more of an R&B dance oriented album...

On The Summit, it's strictly reggae instrumentals set to, for 1988,"high tech" synthesizer standards. What you end up getting is almost every single track sounding alike with the same mid to slow tempo or beat. Where there should be warmth and depth to this style of music it becomes synthetic and contrived...The Summit reaches a low point...
