Nothing special, but not a bad RPG either,

Coming over from the GBA, Atlus' Summon Night series comes to the DS with Summon Night: Twin Age. At it's core, Summon Night: Twin Age is a tried and true RPG/dungeon crawler that will feel instantly familiar to those who have played their share of old school RPG's, even so to those who haven't played the past Summon Night games for the GBA. Nearly everything about the game. from the storyline, characters, and environments are far from being anything new, but what helps make the game work is it's charming look and art style, along with the use of skill trees which add a bit of depth to the overall gameplay. Where Summon Night: Twin Age fails however is that the graphics haven't changed much (if at all) in the transition from GBA to DS. Despite the charming look, the game just looks dated. Not to mention that the constant exploration and backtracking can get really, really annoying. Still, the game ends up being fun for a while, even though it isn't all that hard to get through. All in all, Summon Night: Twin Age isn't a bad RPG at all, and while you'll certainly play better ones on the DS, it is still worth a look for fans of the series or RPG fans in general.

It's a Charmer!,

I just can't deny Summon Night: Twin Age's charm. The game is easy to grasp and, although, it might not be the most innovative storyline, there's no denying it's fun filled.
Summon Night: Twin Age features two main characters Reiha and Aldo, who you choose to play is entirely up to you. Reiha is a summoner and Aldo is a summon beast. The two came into each other's lives years ago after an unfortunate accident happened during a summoning experiment. Reiha managed to survive, as did Aldo, who was pulled into her world. Reiha and Aldo are all each other have and very much have a brother/sister relationship. When the game begins the spirits are going out of control and from that point on you are on a quest to stop the madness. Summon Night: Twin Age does a good job at incorporating the stylus into gameplay. It's an action based RPG, and you use the stylus to move, use magic, and attack enemies. The battle field can seem a little overwhelming at times, as there is a lot going on at once, but the game does a good job at keeping you on your toes. The mechanics are relatively simple and easy to pick up as well. Your supporting characters also have the ability to come back to life after a certain period of time elapses in battle. This is nice as there is no need to perform revival spells, but it's still not easy to completely survive without them. The only other difficult part is that your AI characters aren't exactly the sharpest. They will attack when they have a sliver of life left and most of the time you have to baby sit them. You can't entirely depend on them, which is another hardship to overcome. However, I feel Summon Night: Twin Age offers just the right amount of challenge without becoming too frustrating. I'll give this game credit as you could definitely replay it. After each chapter you are able to speak with different characters and discover their perspective on the situation at hand. These conversations also will determine the ending. There are also multiple endings to discover depending on who you get to know. Now there is a lot of good and enjoyment to be had with Summon Night Twin Age, however, the game does have some areas it could have improved on. The biggest downfalls are the lack of an entirely engaging story and it can be repetitive and particularly linear. There are little side quests to do, but they seemed tacked on rather than adding anything significant to the story. But, I'd like to note that for all these shortcomings, the characters more than make up for it. They will instantly charm you and provide the motivation needed to complete this game to the end.

I loved this game. It may not reach the heights of Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2 on GBA, but it is still really fun. The stylus control works amazingly well. The story is delightful. The weapons crafting and skill trees add depth. Combat has been changed to overhead Diablo-style battles, a lot like Children of Mana.
The only thing I found a bit annoying was the fact that many of the dungeons and dead ends. Going through them for added leveling means backtracking all the way back to the beginning through empty corridors. All in all, it is a very fun game that you won't regret playing.

I absolutely adored the first two Summon Nights for the Gameboy Advance. They had great gameplay, true RPG style (although the battles were side-scroll, like Tales of Destiny). And it was easy to play. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed when I began playing this game. I hate the fact that you can only control the character by using the stylus, it makes it very hard to battle accurately. The other games were much easier to play in this regard. Now, admittedly I haven't played more than 20 minutes of this game because it frustrated me so much, but still I am upset at this complete departure from previous format. I don't really like this game.

I like the story line and controls, but the story line is way too short. If it is for young kids its a good idea.I wouldn't recomend this game for age 13 plus.

If you're playing this game for a good plot...just stop reading right now and give up. This plot is quite predictable and doesn't provoke any emotions. The characters are fine but I'm not particularly attached to any of them. The voice acting is ok, but enemies you're up against have a habit of going "SILENCE!!" every time you talk with them, that kind of annoyed me. Reiha also goes "Booooo" too much, I can't get that sound out of my head now after playing this game.
At this point you're probably thinking I hated the game right? Well no I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, I had fun with the gameplay. The characters would move to wherever you would point the stylus, and I had fun with attacks where you would draw a line across the screen and the area you just drew would burst into flames (or something else depending on the spell chosen). There was some strategy that was fun too, you could use the environment to your advantage. For example if you placed yourself behind say a slime pit and agro'd the mobs from there they would be forced to approach you at a very slow pace allowing you to cause more damage to them before they have a chance to damage you. Please note though the Battle System gets VERY repetitious. My main complaint with this game was that it was far too easy. I think I only lost 1 battle in the whole game, and that was because I went up against someone who could put my whole party to sleep and I didn't have any of the potions that cure sleep. I was playing this game in front of my 10 year old cousin at her birthday party, and her friends were saying a lot of the kids in the class were playing this game...I felt really old. I recommend this game if you like Atlus games and want to experience the gameplay. I must admit I may have been biased towards liking the gameplay because it was my first DS game and the unique first experience of using a DS drew me in more. This game is also an ideal choice if you want to give a beginner kid an RPG DS game. They should be able to defeat it without getting too frustrated at any point.

forcing a player to use the stylus is ALWAYS bad...,

The GBA Summon Night games are fantastic. Unfortunately this game has stylus-only controls. Which makes it automatically bad. I tried to make it work, but making a player use the stylus for everything is just really a horrible control scheme.

I have found that DS games created by the publisher "Atlus" are sub par at best. They have a lot of weak games under their belt, but finally got it right with Summon Night Twin Age.
Basically, you play as one primary character with secondary and tertiary characters following you around. The secondary character is fully customizable, and the tertiary character acts on their own. With your party of three, you can use your skill upgrade system to develop your abilities and hot key them to the dual command bars on either side of the screen for super quick access. You explore areas in a somewhat-"Diablo" style of combat, but with a "Children of Mana" style of artwork and presentation. All in all, it's a very customizable, very entertaining, excellent gameplay style game. If you're a fan of Diablo and either Children of- or Secret of Mana, then you're going to like this game. I applaud Atlas for finally creating a decent game, and this one definately far surpasses what I was hoping for on a Nintendo DS. Highly recommended.

This game has a lot of talking. To me this game is more complicated than the normal rpg game. I don't think it was worth the money I paid for it.
