Eva Marie's series is fabulous. I couldn't wait to find the time to read the next page. I fell in love with Katie and hope there are plans to read more of her. Eva Marie's 3 books in this series is filled with exciting plot twists, suspense, and drew me closer to the Lord, plus making me even more appreciative of my wonderful husband. These books are delightful!

Yet another page-turner,
By Gayle Scheff "Scooter" (Mt Home, ID USA) - See all my reviews

Once more Eva Marie Everson and G.W. Francis Chadwick put together a best seller in this story of Katie and her struggle to keep her faith and continue living life even while not knowing if her husband is dead or alive. In the end, it leaves you waiting anxiously for the next book in the series. I have actually been given the privilege of reading the first three chapters of Shadows of Light, book 3, and I can honestly say it promises not to disappoint!! You won't want to miss this one!

Suspense-filled drama,
By
This review is from: Summon the Shadows (Shadow of Dreams Series #2) (Paperback)
Everson and Chadwick have once again written a suspense-filled drama in their sequel, Summon the Shadows. Their behind the scenes look at a world unknown to most Christians evoke a predictable variety of emotions: anger, disgust, pity, compassion, hopefulness-while they weave yet another unpredictable fiction plot. The haunting question throughout the book keeps the reader hoping for an answer at the end: "What REALLY happened to Ben, Katie's beloved husband? Is he really dead? Clues say "maybe not," but reality says, "probably so." Will the three call girls ever make it in the "real" world? Can Katie hold out and hold on to the inner strength and faith she has found? You may have to wait until the very end to get any glimmer of an answer to those questions. Which opens the door to yet another sequel......

Everson & Chadwick Hit the Big Time with Their Shadow Series,
By Jon Robinson (Athens, Georgia) - See all my reviews

Engaging! Compelling! Riviting! Three words that describe the progression I felt while reading Shadow of Dreams and its sequel, Summon the Shadows. Eva Marie Everson and G.W.Francis Chadwick have written two books that engage all five senses. I can see the descriptions on the page. I can hear the intensity of emotion in the dialogue. I can feel the suspense as I walk with the characters down the path of twists and turns to the plot. The books are a compelling read. I want to know whether and how Katie and her mom are going to reunite after so many years, in Shadow of Dreams. How is Katie going to pass on her gift of redemption to three waifs of the seamy underworld in Summon the Shadows. How will Katie balance the many feelings and needs of navigating the corporate world with her hope against hope that her husband, Ben, survived the car bomb and waits somewhere to reunite with her? I was rivited to the plot development both because the storyline was so believable and real, and also because the authors so deftly wove in character responses to our national, 9-11 tragedy. The themes of personal redemption, sacrifice, and blessing through adversity are expertly conveyed. While each book is a stand-alone suspense thriller, together they are two-thirds of a trilogy that will endear Katie Webster and her cohorts to both the Christian and secular reader for many years to come. Bring on Book 3!

They've done it again!,
By
This review is from: Summon the Shadows (Shadow of Dreams Series #2) (Paperback)
It's fun to see writers grow in their craft. Everson and Chadwick have done just that and the reader benefits. Summon the Shadows is a fast paced read picking up where their popular book, Shadow of Dreams, leaves off. I liked the development of Katie's character and how, with God's help, she was able to take over the posh hotel after her husband's disappearance. Skillfully-written fiction can teach many life lessons, and through Katie, we learn that we can grow through our grief and shattered lives. Some readers prefer the more obvious Christian fiction, but I loved the carefully woven message of God's love, strength, and hope intertwined with real-life characters and situations. This is a book I feel comfortable suggesting to non Christians because I know they won't be turned off by an excessive amount of "God talk," yet they will be able to find Him in the carefully chosen words. I loved the way they wove the tragic events of September 11 into the story. The authors used the events as a way of showing character growth and helping us understand that we all need to do something in the face of unspeakable evil. The plot is easy to follow but leaves enough clues so that when the surprising punch line is delivered we're not disappointed. Summon the Shadows is an entertaining read that shouts, "We're a new breed of Christian fiction." Life is full of twists and turns and Everson and Chadwick do an excellent job of showing the One who will get us through what can be a terrifying maze. Summon the Shadows is an excellent read with outstanding dialogue, believable characters, and an interesting plot. I'm looking forward to the next installment and finding resolution to the questions so expertly posed in the epilogue.

The Rich and the Ruthless,
By
This review is from: Summon the Shadows (Shadow of Dreams Series #2) (Paperback)
You don't need to endure a nasally TV narrator's voice to peek at this fictional "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." But you do need a strong heart for dangerous plot twists in which the rags-to-riches heroine finds herself as she's thrust into the high, dark world of organized crime. Though the ending leaves you panting for another sequel (what really happened to her husband?), you'll finish the book glad for another illustration that not only right, but righteousness, prevails.

A Page-Turning Southern Novel,
This review is from: Summon the Shadows (Shadow of Dreams Series #2) (Paperback)
The novel is full of realistic Southern charm and characters. If you love Southern novels, don't miss out on this one! Shadow of Dreams by Eva Marie Everson and G. W. Francis Chadwick is a well-written, well-developed novel full of foreshadowing. The main character serves as an excellent example of what happens to many young teens glamorized by the big city and running from problems at home. Instead of the prodigal son, the main character, Katie, is the prodigal daughter. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to Katie and her husband, and the bad guys. I loved the way the authors used literature for clues. I also loved the way the small-town Georgia guys protected their own and took care of the big-city guys. These authors do not preach, but they certainly know how to spin a tale that could serve to help others. These authors offer much insight, and a reflective reader will benefit from the experience of having read this novel. I have ordered all three Shadows books from Amazon, and I can't wait to read the other two. A good, reflective reader will find that this book is about many things that connect to life in such a way, it can't help but be realistic. The characters are realistic, not mere shells of characters. The way they talk and the things they say provide that realistic touch to make them come to life. I think this book would make a good movie; in fact, a three-part series.

This second book in the series shows that Everson and Chadwick have the potential to develop into top writers in the thriller genre. They also create characters that live in the real world-often the gritty side of the real world. If you're looking for a book of twists and turns and you're never sure where the story is going next, this is the book for you.
