By Hot Sauce "Hot Sauce" (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Summon in Thunder (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
i remember when i purchased my first himsa cd... actually it was their ep 'death is infinite' and 'courting tragedy and disaster'. i wasn't too impressed with 'death' and thought to myself i just wasted $20!!! but instead of returning the two i decided to give 'courting' a spin and was blown away!!! now this was a whole new band!!! i kept listening to this disc repeatedly and still to this day am not tired of it. about a month later 'hail horror' was released and though upon the first listen i knew it was another quality record, but it took me a little longer to 'get into it'. there was just something there that was missing. but after a little while longer it became a mainstay in my playlist. now enter 'summon in thunder'! this record totally blows both 'courting' and 'hail' out of the water!!! this record owns! it's so diverse and well produced, you can expect the same style of poetic verse from pettibone (sometimes i wonder what the hell this guy is trying to say, but nevertheless i don't listen to metal for the lyrics as they are most of the time lame or boring). this is in your face, unrelenting, mood altering b@11s to the wall metal!!! if you like the 2 previous records this one will no doubt floor you.

This Totally Destroys Hail Horror.,
This review is from: Summon in Thunder (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
I Remember my introduction into himsa, back in 2004 i heard "girl in glass" so i picked up Courting Tradgedy and disaster til this day i love that record. i saw them live with bleeding through and death by stereo and they easily stole the show, then in 05 hail horror came out i baught it the first day it came out i liked it but not as much as courting. Summon In Thunder is Himsa's Return their best since courting.

a solid heavy *** must have,

I can't say I ever was a huge Himsa fan. After hearing a few seconds of one of their songs in a smoke & beet store, I went out and got courting tragedy and hail horror, but never really got into them. Awhile ago I saw the video for Big Timber off Summon in Thunder and was blown away. Got it the next day and has been one of my all time favorite cd's since. The band knows how to play, and work amazing well off each other. It's grinding, assaulting, and almost impossible not to head bang too. If anything, it's worth buying just for Skinwalkers (one of the best song intros ever). If your a metal fan, get it. you won't regret the puchase

I can't stop listening to this album! My favorite tracks are "Hooks As Hands" (ferocious, galloping), "Skinwalkers" (experimental, epic), "Big Timber" (complex, huge), and "Unleash Carnage" (brutal thrash). The biggest treat will be seeing the band play these songs live though, the guys SLAY in concert! Himsa is truly a great, hardworking band, and if you haven't gotten into them yet, you're missing out. Buy this record and go to one of their shows!
Here's what the press has been saying: 'Summon in Thunder': this is the sound of American metal's next truly great band realizing their own excellence. (********* 9/10 stars) --METAL HAMMER "A juggernaut of North American metal that comes cloaked in an ominous black cloud." -- ThePRP.com ...with passion integrity and a whole bunch of killer tunes on their side, Himsa deserves to go far -ROCK SOUND "An awesome display of metal prowess...this album could well push them even further over the top...simply put the future is in their hands: Himsa could be as big as they want to be." -TUNED Huge sounding tracks like "Given In To The Taking" and "Haunter" prove Himsa are a completely new monster -ALTERNATIVE PRESS "There's stuff here that will have thousands of metallers breathing a sigh of relief, just pleased that not every band has decided to start playing some kind of core. This is hard-working, hard-headed heavy metal." -NEW-NOISE.NET Himsa has developed a tight, well thought-out approach to an older sound that never feels dated...they're simply honoring the best metal has to offer. It's positively commendable. (******** 8/10 stars) -DECIBEL Seattle's Himsa has jumped from one powerhouse metal label to the next. With their debut offering for Century Media, "Summon In Thunder," they have continued their ferocious blend of melodic, unrelenting thrash speed mixed with old-school metal influences, which results in a savage, unique and uncompromising sound. -SMARTPUNK |
