5.0 out of 5 stars best CD from one of my favorite bands, July 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sumo Surprise (Audio CD)
Ghoti Hook. This is the best punk CD I have ever listened to. Hooks, riffs galore, it's intellegent, original, and funny. Great vocals, tight drums and original guitar and bass come together in a way rarely seen on a first album. I own hundreds of CD's, but this is one i still listen to often - even after owning it for several years. Not something I can say about 99% of the other CD's I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great melodic/thrash punk!, December 21, 1999

Yes, thats right. Melodic yet thrashy punk. Ghoti hook serves up one of the most unique sounds I've heard yet. Blazing guitars, jumpy bass, and fast drums. Yet the singer has an incredibly smooth voice, with great carry. There are a couple songs I don't care much for, but the good songs (and most of them are good) far outweigh the bad ones. Highlights on the disc are Dry Run, Shrinky Dinks, Super Sumo, Tract Boy, and Body Juggler.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Heck Of A Freshman Release, June 29, 2000
This review is from: Sumo Surprise (Audio CD)
For a band's first release, this is an incredible album. It delivers in every way: musically, the band is as tight as can be; spiritually, there are songs that talk about witnessing for Christ ("Tract Boy"); and lyrically, the songs are basically fun and silly! It's great punk rock; better than the rest, though. The guitar hooks will ring in your ears for months as you sing "Ooklah the Punk" to yourself. It's no doubt that every review including this one has given the album 5 stars...it's well worth your money!

Ghoti Hook is one seriously cool band. Most CD's get old with time, however this one just doesn't wear out. I think this album was better than their other two. It is one of my favorite disks. They are upbeat, innovative, and best of all they go 100% for Jesus.

Ghoti Hook is positively the most amazing punk rock band ever!!! This CD has upbeat songs, punk thrasher songs, just about everything!! Ghoti Hook is no doubt talented- their gift shines through on songs like "Seasons" and "Scared Am I". Their message is awesome and so is their music. Check it out!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album, October 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Sumo Surprise (Audio CD)
The most surprising thing about Sumo Surprise is that it was Ghoti Hook's first album. When this came out, very few punk bands demonstrated the technical skill they seemed to throw around so casually. MxPx, apparently considered by some to be a superior band, were still floundering with their first two releases, and even with Life In General still did not reach the level of musicianship that Ghoti Hook nailed their first shot.

These guys comprise one of the best bands to come down the pike in the last 10 years. This album is great fun, both lyrically and instrumentally. Still one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 years later, it still rocks, October 21, 2006
By
This review is from: Sumo Surprise (Audio CD)
I have had this CD since it came out and though I have mostly out-grown my "punk" attitude, I still have great appreciation for the album. While being labeled as punk, I feel that they have managed to transcend that label and just become a band that could just all-out rock.

Personal favorites:
Body Jiggler, Ooklah the Punk, Samson, Shrinky Dinks (album best), Spice Drops, Money, and even Knock Knock.

I recommend this CD for anyone who loves to be silly and yet rock out at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD., February 6, 2005
This review is from: Sumo Surprise (Audio CD)
Ghoti Hook was one heck of a band. This CD was probably one of their best. It was just awesome punk music (some serious, some funny). Banana man was good, but this CD definately tops it. I would highly recommend it to anybody.
