This story is an expansion by the author of a Wall Street Journal article nominated for a Pulitzer prize.
The author spent many days and hours with the family in order to get the greatest insight into what they all were dealing with.

It is a story of Hope and Faith and perserverance. It also confrontss the issues we hope never to have to deal with- to let a seriously ill loved one linger with the latest and greatest medical intervention or to accept that this may be the time to let our loved one go for his or her own sake.

You will have to make that decisions for yourself as you read this incredible story.

I couldn't put this book down. Also, I wept near the end. What this man and his family went through, no one should have to go through. Thank the good Lord they had Jesus for comfort. Excellent read !!! Makes one feel so blessed when they're healthy and well.

Well written, quick read about a farmer's freak accident, and the choices his family makes. But more than that it's also a love story, a story of how novel medical developments make it to market and a bit of history about the Midwest and farming. Love it.

I picked up this book randomly in the library. But when i start reading, it captures my attention from the day one. Its a very well written memoir by Michael.

This book can help to overcome some of the hardships and turbulance in ones life. Although as compared to the one that Ted Fink went through it must be nothing.

I would highly recommend this book.

This is a MUST READ! McCarthy deftly handles setting the rural stage and sensitively taking us through the horrors of an accident that would change a family forever. Richard Pryor got a lot of comedic mileage out of his horrific accident with freebasing, but he also testified hilariously and agonizingly about the torment of the recovery process. This book eschews that route for reaching into the hearts of this couple, a farmer and his wife, dealing with the effects of an accidental self-immolation physically, emotionally and spiritually. McCarthy has the requisite depth to bring all of the complex elements together in a cogent and deeply moving story. He digs deep to remind us, as the couple learned, of the meaning of life. You will be inspired by the story and struck by the fluidity of McCarthy's prose. He FELT this story, and it shows. And you will, too. This is the second time I've seem what this man can do with fire (the first as a classroom demonstration) and both times had their enlightening moments.
