TOO EXPENSIVE,
This review is from: Rit Sun Guard Laundry Treatment UV Protectant - si (Kitchen)
If you go to Rit's website you can get Sunguard for $1.95 for 1 packet, $5.95 for 3 packets or $11.94 for 6 packets. It's a good product, but you don't have to pay this amount!

I guess the product is good, who can say for sure I never really burned thru my shirts before Sun Guard usage but I guess it can't hurt. If you have a front load washer you will need to disolve the product first in hot water then start you washer without the clothes let some water fill then hit "add a garment" then add the disolved Sun Guard (In hot water) then close the door and start the washer again let it continue to fill and mix then "add a garment" again and add clothes and extend the soil/wash time so the washer stays in the wash cycle for at least 15 minutes. Not really that hard once you do it a couple times. I had to think about this for a few minutes to get a game plan, I hope this helps some of you. Good luck

A must buy!,

I come from a family of caucasians, many of us with skin cancer as early as our twenties. After that family history, we ALL now use this! What a top of the line product! It does not change the texture of the clothing or anything, just makes it safer! I even use it on my baby's clothes and she has no reaction! I HIGHLY suggest this product for everyone - why not add something to your laundry that could save your life?

Easy, cost-effective sun protection,

I read about this in the newspaper, and while I've not conducted independent tests, I have looked up several scientific studies that seem to confirm this really works. It's easy to use (just add to wash cycle, following directions), supposedly lasts for up to 20 washes with just one packet. That means just one laundry load gets us through most of the season.

Rit Sun Guard Laundry Treatment UV Protectant - six 1 oz packetsI am fair skinned but have always enjoyed the sun (too much when younger). Age and various medications as well as skin cancer warnings made me purchase this product 7/06 in preparation for a trip to the ocean in July. I washed all my summer clothes with it. It does not change the fabric, stain it, or anything. I found it it to be most effective and am back this year for another batch. I highly recommend this product. Purchase all 6 packets. You will use them and even give them to friends and family.

I love this product. My family and I are very fair skinned and skin cancer runs in the family. I use this product in spring and summer on all of the clothes. It does not bother even a young childs sensitive skin.

Great Product!,

I have used this now for two years. I am very concerned about skin cancer and luckily have as yet not developed any despite having many risk factors. I order directly from RIT because I have not found a local vendor as yet. If you want to protect yourself and your family from the sun this is an excellent product and I am very happy someone developed it. It is recommended by the American Skin Cancer Foundation which is a pretty big deal and really legitimizes it as being effective. Sunguard is very reasonably priced from RIT if you cannot find it locally or on Amazon for a good price. Personally I do not bother to treat denim clothing (because it is already extremely tight and thick weave providing high UPF) or socks or underwear and this makes the product go a lot further by only treating the most important clothing. Of course if you wear shorts or thin, light colored pants and so forth you may want to just treat everything. By only treating shirts (including undershirts) I manage to get through an entire year of 3-4 treatments per year (3 full loads of clothes treated per time) for under $40 total cost per year and that includes the shipping. From what I have read the majority of skin cancers for men arise on the neck/shoulder/back area and women seem to get a lot on the legs for some reason (maybe skirts/dresses are a factor?) and that is why I focus on the shirts (dad with two boys). Of course for total protection a good wide brim hat and lots of good sunscreen like NO-AD Sunblock SPF 60 Lotion (which is great and economical sunblock that I have used for many years now) that is frequently reapplied to exposed areas is essential as well.

More Info Needed,

I was very intrigued by your product and ordered it to sun proof our biking clothes for the RAGBRAI. Upon receiving the product to my dismay, I found out that Sun Guard only works on cotton or cotton blend clothing. I don't remember reading this information in the on line description. I couldn't sun proof most of our biking clothes, as the clothes are polyester, nylon, and lycra. Also, the instructions inside the product do not tell you how to use the product in a front loading washing machine. I tried using it dry in the powder compartment, but that didn't work for me. I wasted one packet! Does Sun Guard really help clothes to block the sun? I really don't know the answer.

Retired and living in Florida and fishing almost everyday, skin cancer prone husband requires all the protection that clothing, sun-block lotion, and semi-annual medical check-ups can offer. Rit Sun Guard laundry treatment is one more layer. Will it make a difference in the long term? Maybe. Does it cause any changes to the clothing fabric? None visible. My practice is to gather up the usual load of fishing togs and add the Sun Guard to the washer load per package instruction. After drying, I label the clothing inside with the date and repeat about annually. I put in t-shirts, shirts and trousers, and probably do about 2 loads a year. Easy way to add a little love and hopefully protection to a load of cloths.

I have had skin cancer twice and am only 38. I am a landscaper and wanted extra protection, so I purchased this product and have washed 90% of my clothes in it. It's easy to use and did not discolor any of my clothes. Since it's recommended by the American Cancer Society, I assume they've tested it and it works. It's good for 20 washings or so, which is way cheaper than buying that sun protective clothing (expensive and limited style). I only gave it 4 stars because I don't really have any real experience yet with the clothes I washed - I'll let you know after I go to Mexico in a few weeks!
