Drier than other brands I have enjoyed, not as sweet,

I am not a fan of the so-called "Turkish" dried apricots, which are too soft and too sweet for my tastes. Rather I prefer these chewier, somewhat more tart "California-style" apricots. However, these Sun-Maid 'cots were a disappointment. They were quite small, very dry, and at least one bag was intolerably tart---not sweet at all. One bag was also filled incorrectly---only contained two or three apricot pieces. Amazon was kind enough to ship me another. If you have a Trader Joes' near you, check out their bulk bags of dried apricots---much tastier, and more affordable too.

My family loves these so much more than the Mediterranean apricots because of their tartness! Unfortunately, we can't find these in our grocery stores anymore -

Disappointed!,

I grew up in Silicon Valley back when we still had apricot trees from the old orchards, so I'm a sucker for California (not Mediterranean) apricots. I saw this product in my local store and foolishly bought two packs without tasting it first! The apricots were bitter; even I would have preferred Mediterranean apricots over these. I also noticed that the packaging doesn't call them California apricots, but rather "dried halves" and "product of USA, Chile, or Argentina".
Stay away from this poor-quality product and buy something really tasty (I like Mariani's California Apricots).

SO much better than the Mediterranean Apricots,

I am a big fan of Sun-Maid California apricots! They have just the right balance of tartness, sweetness and tangy apricot flavor. Mediterranean apricots are mushy, overly sweet and for the most part devoid of the rich apricot flavor that is so strong and delicious in the California apricots. You just can't beat the quality of these dried apricots.

California dried apricots are the best available. They are much better than Mediterranean ones, which have an unpleasantly bitter taste that may be due to the over-use of sulphur as a preservative. Sun-Maid Californian dried apricots are the best I have ever had. They should be boiled in water for a few minutes and allowed to cool, then they are delicious on breakfast cereals or with vanilla ice cream.

An appetite suppressent,

I really prefer fresh apricots when I can find them, but the dried apricots will do as a substitute. I have found that a fresh apricot (or two dried apricot halves) is an effective sppetite suppressent to eliminate hunger pangs if you are on a diet. This particular brand seems a little drier than some others, but stores tend to have limited selections (you have to shop around). These do not seem as sweet as some other brands, and individual consumers will have to judge which brands they prefer. It does have an expiration date on the package, which in the present case was about 6 months after purchase.

Why are apricots from california so hard to find?,

I adore dried apricots. It seems that all I can find at the supermarket anymore is Turkish apricots, and they just aren't as flavorful as the ones from California. I don't know why that is; maybe they are a different species, maybe they're processed differently. Turkish apricots are dried whole, California apricots are cut in half. They are more expensive than Turkish apricots too, which seems counterintuitive. At any rate, they're worth it, and I'm so glad Amazon carries them

I love CALIFORNIA Dried Apricots, not Mediterranean. Taste is entirely different. We can't get California Dried Apricots here in Orlando for some reason. Thrilled to have a place to order them from with reasonable price. Also like the idea that saving a few carbon emissions if the apricots are really coming from California versus all the way from Mediterranean, but may just be different types of apricots grown here.
[...] Great service from Amazon provider too.

Boooooo! too dry and thin and chewy. Aso, very bitter.
Maybe I got a bad bag from a bad bunch, but they did not hold a candle to Sunsweet or Mariani |
