5.0 out of 5 stars Sooooo good
I love dates.

That will no doubt color my review, but meh.

These are wonderful dates. In five bags (one shipment) I found two pits. Too many? Okay, maybe, but not bad.

Add to that, these are natural. No sugar. No pecans inserted. No added anything. Sweet without sweeteners.

I munch eight, maybe ten at a time. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Hard
The price is good but the dates are a little hard. The taste is good and they are very sweet. I will probably buy them again but beware that some of them are a lil on the hard side. If you plan to bake with them etc than it doesn't matter as much.

I munch eight, maybe ten at a time. I savor them, drink some coffee with them, luxuriate with them. Some hours later, I am regular. I will say no more.

They are well worth the relatively meager expense.

I have not had the pleasure to eat other dates but I have fell in love with these.

Yes they are dry and can be tough but fantastic out of the package but heck I like beef jerky which is far tougher, love these chopped then mixed into yogurt or left whole in a cup of yogurt for a few hours ... just like a big sugar cube.

I will have to try others and sure will as I have fallen in love with these and golden raisins, prunes and imagine I eat a diet that a gorrila would love.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Family Eats Them Like Candy, September 8, 2011

Well, they eat them in place of candy. I started buying the whole, pitted dates a few months ago and now my family loves them. We're debating over whether they're better at room temperature (a little more chewy) or refrigerated (a little harder). Buying them this way (5 at a time) is much less expensive than buying them from the grocery store. I've only had the Sun-Maid brand, so I can't compare others yet.

I got one batch that was nice and moist. and another order that was hard as a rock. What's up with that?

I would say the nice and moist ones rated at 4 stars (for the price) and the dry ones at 2 stars (they are still edible)

After reading some reviews on dates sold by amazon i was reluctant to order any; however, these are not a disappointment at all - they are delicious.

I read the reviews before I purchased these dates. Another person had written that the dates were a little hard and I've found so far (3 pouches) that this is indeed true for about half the pouch. I use the hard ones in cooking hot breakfast cereal or baking so I don't mind as much as if I had bought this entirely for eating. Will I purchase these again? Absolutely. The price is right and since I use them mainly for cooked breakfast cereals and baking I don't mind the hard ones. And the soft ones? Well, I LOVE eating those just as they are.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good price for dates, February 8, 2011
This review is from: Sun Maid Pitted Dates, 8-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 5) (Grocery)
We usually get the Mariani dates, which comes in one big bag. I saw this when I searched on Amazon for dates and thought I'd give the Sun Maid dates a try since they were less expensive (by per ounce cost).

I love plump, soft, sweet dates. Not soft enough to smear and not al dente. In a bag of Mariani, I'd say about 40 to 50% fit the bill.

In these Sun-Maid bags, about 20 to 30% deliver the perfect luscious plump goodness. Many are just a little harder than I like and some are close to dessicated. Very few are so soft that they're smeared onto another date.

That doesn't mean that they aren't good (except for the very dry ones). They are sweet and delicious and my 3 year old asks for some every night as an after dinner treat. I just wish they were softer.

I like the convenient small bag size and I would buy them again for snacking (considering our budget), but with a mind to put the harder ones aside for baking.

These are sweet and rich; one stone found so far. These are very satisfying when my 'sweettooth hollers', it only takes 2-3 and I am free again! To boot, I am receiving some valuable minerals, real nourishment, rather than traditional sweets.
Of course baked goods are richly embellished by addition of chopped dates, cookies, bars etc. I love to stuff them--a walnut, peanut butter, cream cheese etc.

Purchased these dates to enjoy right out of the pkg. but alas, they're too dry to eat except in recipes such as date-nut bread. Very disappointed. I hoped they would be as good as Sunsweet's in a can, but were not at all. Too bad--I like the convenience of the foil pkts. I would not buy these again--BIG WASTE OF MONEY.
