Book Description

4 and upP and up
Charming watercolors and friendly depictions of Sun and Moon introduce young readers to the natural phenomenon of an eclipse. In this enchanting fable, the lonely sun and moon inhabit different parts of the sky, but find happiness when they realize that their paths will cross occasionally.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K --This story offers cliches and stilted writing about a conversation between the Earth and the lonely Sun who would like to have a friend (oddly, the Earth behaves like a friend, but never offers to be one). The conversation is repeated between Earth and Moon. And, surprise, the Moon and the Sun agree to become friends. They meet momentarily (an eclipse) and agree to get together more often. The illustrations--like the story--are a little hard to believe. The drawings are flat and without perspective, while the colors are wonderful shades of greens and yellows and blues. They can't make up for the poor writing and an unconvincing story .

5.0 out of 5 stars Sun and Moon, April 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sun and Moon (Paperback)
This is an awesome book! It's another one of Marcus Pfister's wonderful creations with beautiful illustrations and an excellent message. This book creatively explains eclipses for young readers in a context that they will enjoy and understand. Besides explaining eclipses, this book also explores emotions and the power of friendship. The illustrations are excellent, they are bright and vibrant with wonderful detail. It is an asbolute must for any classroom or personal collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everybody Needs Friends, March 14, 2003
A Kid's Review
Everyone needs to have friends, we all know that. In this story, the Sun is always lonely because he never has anyone to talk to and share stories with. The moon feels the exact same way. One evening, as the moon was rising, he noticed the sun off on the other side of the horizon. The began to talk evey morning and evening and became the best of friends.
This is a great story to show how inportant friendships really are. When you don't have friends, you are ususally pretty sad and lonely. But with friends around, you can joke around, tell secrets, and just have fun. This story shows that importance and what it does for a person. Everybody needs friends...
