Book Description

November 1, 2004
Two books in one, this award-winning hardcover adapts Sun Tzu's timeless principles to address today's military challenge of terrorism. Foreword Magazine's Book of the Year Finalist in Philosophy, Sun Tzu's Art of War is on the left-hand pages with our application to terror on the facing right-hand pages. For a preview of the unique viewpoint on terror it provides, you can read our first chapters here. Unlike partisan views of the War on Terror, this book follows Sun Tzu's principles stanza by stanza, examining the relevant issues as he would. What emerges in a unique picture of the war on terror that you cannot get anywhere else. For example, Sun Tzu tells us that all war are based on economics and forces us to examine the economic underpinnings of terrorist attacks. How does attacking civilians generate money for the terrorists?

1.0 out of 5 stars Opportunity to rail against the (terrorist) media, October 11, 2009
This review is from: Sun Tzu's The Art of War AND Strategy Against Terror: Ancient Wisdom for Today's War (Hardcover)
Glaring ignorance of American foreign policy in combination with grand sweeping generalizations of the "motherhood and apple pie" variety. No less than 38 pages in 12 of 13 chapters include scathing indictments of the media and how they supposedly contribute to, or even promote, terrorism. The lack of discerning logic distracts the reader from Sun Tzu's original work. I would not recommend this book to anyone with an analytical mind and a good grasp of history.

This review is from: Sun Tzu's The Art of War AND Strategy Against Terror: Ancient Wisdom for Today's War (Hardcover)
Very enlightening, an easy read. Can be read in bits and pieces, very handy for the very busy. I have yet to read a more complete description of war and its proper use and conduct. In my opinion, Gary Gagliardi does a very good job of relating Sun Tzu's work to modern times.
