4.0 out of 5 stars Extends the sun visor for shorter drivers
My wife is 5'2" and has problems using the sun visors in our cars because they don't extend low enough. To save her from bending our visors, I have used a Sun Zapper and it works great. She flips it down and blocks the sun. She likes it and no bent visors for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea....Flawed Product
The Sun Zapper is a good example of a good product idea gone bad due to a cheap manufacturing process. I guess I was expecting to much from a product that only cost around $15.00 to $19.00. My main disappointment was the poor optical quality of the amber plastic sun shield. The first time I used my Sun Zapper I pulled it down into position to block the late afternoon sun...

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea....Flawed Product, January 20, 2008

The Sun Zapper is a good example of a good product idea gone bad due to a cheap manufacturing process. I guess I was expecting to much from a product that only cost around $15.00 to $19.00. My main disappointment was the poor optical quality of the amber plastic sun shield. The first time I used my Sun Zapper I pulled it down into position to block the late afternoon sun only to see a sort of wavy, slightly distorted, slightly soft image of the road ahead. It reminded me of a very cheap pair of sunglasses or some very cheap window tint plastic material. All of these optical defects are amplified by the strong backlight of the sun on the amber shield.
This could have been a great product if they had a higher price point and used a near optically clear grade of amber colored plastic. SORRY, BUT I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

3.0 out of 5 stars Distorted but darker, January 26, 2008

This visor-extender is a good idea, but the two problems I found in MY sample were very distressing. The Darker of the two pieces slides smoothly and easily, but it does NOT ever disappear- you are forced to see it at all times. It should be either removable, or at least flippable to reduce the distraction. The second problem, possibly just in MY sample, is the severe distortion in the plastic. The waviness was very distracting, almost hiding smaller items in the line of sight. I hope the rest of the stock is of a better Optical quality, to soothe the eyes and to protect the driver from the glare and brightness that tends to attack the eyes and the driver's brain!

I would actually give this one a -0, but there isn't a rating for that low. I returned this item. It is not wide enough - the "patented" sun shield is a joke and it makes you nauseous to look through it as the cheap plastic is distorted!

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy gadget for long drives, January 3, 2007

I ordered several--on for both visors of my car, and one for my son, who drives long distances. The sun-zapper may be a life saver in unfamiliar towns with major intersections. During certain seasons and times of day, glare can seriously obstruct the driver's vision, sometimes even making it impossible to see traffic lights. This gadget cuts down on that effect, making driving safer and more comfortable. Also, when used in heavy night traffic the sun zapper softens the glare of oncoming headlights.

1.0 out of 5 stars a good idea that didn't work out, April 6, 2008

I bought 3 of these. I found one lying on the seat of the car, the visor clips apparently failed overnight - I found the broken pieces in the car. I complained to Trillium and they sent me new clips free of charge. which was good because a second one failed in the same manner - fine at night, in pieces in the morning. the third one broke at the hinge where the shield snaps into the clip. flipped it down to block the sun and the whole thing landed in the driver's lap while the car was moving.

all 3 arrived in a scratched condition, tolerable but still looked like they'd been dusty or dirty and someone cleaned them using scratchy materials. plastic is too soft, wouldn't hold up to regular dusting without becoming badly scratched. and they are NOT optically clear AT ALL, I got carsick while driving trying to view thru the distortion.

a great idea that could use some practical improvements - a metal rod at the hinge (instead of a quarter-inch bit of plastic), metal clips or greatly improved plastic clips (or including several spares with each purchase!), and better quality plastic or maybe even glass - something that won't scratch so easily and won't distort your view so badly.

I wasn't expecting much, but I was still disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the concept, but has one minor setback, November 22, 2007
This review is from: Sun Zapper Innovative Glare Shield (Tools & Home Improvement)
I absolutely love the concept of this product. I was actually going to make one myself from plexiglass, but found this one available. I bought two, one for me and one for my sister. We are both fairly short and bothered by the sun sitting just below where our car's visor reaches. I love the sliding part that makes it darker in that spot to eliminate the direct sun's rays. The only drawback for me is the fact that it sort of vibrates when it is fully extended, which kind of blurrs your vision through it. The first time I used it, it gave me a headache. I guess I could blame part of that on the vibration in my car. If you drive a very smooth-riding luxury car, it would be better. Anyway, I am keeping mine, but using it only when the sun is at it's worst. I would recommend this product, it just takes a little getting used to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great protection from the harmful sun glare, January 7, 2008

This is a wounderful product if you want to avoid the harmful sun glare. I purchased 2 one for the driver and passenger side. It works well once you get used to it and adjust the position.

It is made sturdy and can be removed very easy.

This extension to the regular sun visor is VERY easy to install, and we found it immensely useful when we were driving west (Boston to Denver) recently. It definitely cuts down the glare of late afternoon sun, thereby reducing the stress of driving into the sun in the late afternoon. This should be standard equipment, in my opinion. Why aren't there more of them around?
