I must admit, I always read product reviews and take days to decide upon which item I will finally purchase. I always look for a good product at the right price and so far this opener delivers! Often I find the most expensive is NOT always the best quality nor the right choice. From the moment I placed my first can under the edge and found that it seemed to magically find the edge and zip right on through, I realized I had a winner. Not as noisy as my Home Essentials model I replaced! That HE model also had to have the can exactly in the right spot and still would derail half way through the can. This Sunbeam is the best I have ever owned! On large cans you give the lever in the front a twist, and viola, it's high enough for taller cans! I used to have to lift my old one up and set it on top of the can and contortion my arms at strange angles while I struggled to allow the can to spin and still support the old opener. Not any more! I can attest to the quality of the knife sharpener. It does have what appears to be a set of ceramic blocks for sharpening. They are fixed and they do not spin. Spinning stones never worked, in my opinion, since they had a habit of wearing quickly and irregularly. Ceramic blocks are good to keep sharp knives sharp. I will never use a can opener to sharpen a knife! It's a can opener! The blocks are good for maintaining those edges. Purchase a good hand sharpener with carbide, fixed cutters on one side and ceramic rods on the other for dull knives. Nothing beats that for sharpening and of course a good steel for straightening. If you look on Youtube there a dozen good videos on sharpening. Equipment is cheap and easy to do! Young or old anyone can hand sharpen a knife. Now if you are looking for a good can opener, you need look no more! :)
