Modern houses can turn you into a prune. Your skin, throat, and sinuses weren't designed to deal with dry artificial heat (or even too much dry natural heat). The Sunbeam-Oster cool-mist humidifier solves this common problem by allowing you to breathe easier, especially at night. You simply fill the plastic tank (the size of a tipped-over gallon milk container) with water and rest the plug-in mist unit on top. The humidifier produces a thin stream of cool mist to wet down your air all night. The tank has a small dip, or tray, in the top, just in front of the mist outlet, for medications. This humidifier measures 13 by 11 by 7-1/2 inches and fits inconspicuously in a corner. The tank glows in the dark, so you're not likely to slam an unsuspecting toe into it in the middle of the night, but in any case, the motor unit twist-locks onto the tank for safety. Our family has purchased several Sunbeam Vaporizers over the years and have had good luck with these units. The Larger-tank unit is a better deal as it holds more water.
The unit produces steam which is why we buy them--steam helps to warm the air as it adds moisture and also kills any organisms in the water. More expensive cool-mist humidifiers do NOT kill bacteria and fungus and their cool mist cools the room temperature.
This unit requires regular cleaning to keep it working well--our water has much calcium so we clean the electrodes after every 2 or 3 uses. Simply scrape the scale from the electrodes and put the unit back in service. As the electrodes wear down, a replacement head unit for the device can be purchased direct from the manufacturer--no need to keep buying the water tank.

You know what they say: You buy cheap, you get cheap. or worse, you get a shoddy humidifier. I bought one of these last winter and it stopped producing steam after 2 months. Even when it did work, it was barely noticable in my 10'x11' bedroom...and that is NOT a big space to humidify. Plus, there's no timer or safety switch-off for when/if the water runs out. Luckily I only used mine at night and turned it off in the morning (it lasted just under 8 hours on a full tank), but I could see how it could cause potential problems if left unattended longer. This time I'll invest a few more bucks and get something that actually works, and works safely.

We bought this for the baby's room and it almost started an electrical fire. Thank goodness our electric tripped off, it probably saved our home. This thing does NOT automatically shut off, it overheats, and threatens your family. If something had happened to our baby, I don't even know what I'd do. STAY AWAY from this fire hazard...
