Sunbeam Health at Home 771-810 Standard Moist/Dry Heating Pad

My girlfriend used one for about 4-6 months. Then one day when she was using the unit in the living room, we started noticing a burning plastic smell, along with smoky fumes emanating from inside the blue outer cover. I threw the pad into the backyard in case it was going to catch fire (it didn't). It felt very hot, as if something inside was about to catch fire.

We aired out the house, and when the heating pad cooled sufficiently, I removed the blue cover and found that the white plastic bag inside of it - which I presume contains whatever type of electrical heating element the unit uses - had strings of still-stringy melted plastic clinging to the inside of the blue cover. On both sides of the white inner bag were spots where the plastic was beginning to melt.

Obviously, we can't recommend this product to anyone. We feel fortunate that no fire or injury occurred in this case, and we will certainly not buy any kind of Sunbeam heating pad - nor perhaps any similar heating pad made in China - again.

This is a product guaranteed to endure, by first hand experience i can say it really works very well as supossed to and havent failed me at all.
