I bought this product based on my very positive experience with another product by the same company -- the queen size Sunbeam Arlington dual-control electric blanket (lighted, with preheat option) which I love love LOVE!
And so, living in New England with its old cold houses -- and our dependence on heating oil where zoning is a must (for energy efficiency both in saving $$ and for carbon footprint) -- I jumped on this product.
I think the idea behind it is great (talk about energy-efficient zoning!) -- but it isn't as versatile as I'd hoped -- all because of its too-short cords:
The blanket/throw measures about 50 x 60 inches. But the cord from the receptacle in it (which is split -- one cord going to the control, the other to the wall outlet) is only 33 inches to the control, while the cord to the wall is only about 80 inches.
Plus, because blanket's receptacle is heavy, and in the middle of a 50-inch edge - and is stiff and sticks out from the blanket when plugged in -- most people will want to position the throw so that this receptacle is at their feet instead of near their neck. Being in the middle, it also cuts down on the ways you can position the blanket to get the receptacle out of your face.
Basically I think most people would worry that the cord, or the heavy receptacle -- or both together -- would poke you in the cheek, ear, or eye, without too much provocation. (Plus, it just seems more normal to have it at your feet, like an electric blanket.)
But, then ... positioning it with the receptacle at your feet puts the control a long arm's length away, unless you scrunch up your knees.
In short, the control is easily accessible only in a few positions - but not when lying stretched out (unless you're shorter than 5 foot 4).
The cord to the wall could also be a bit longer, so the slightly-too-short length of both cords compounds the problem.
It's really not that big a deal-breaker (not enough to send it back). But at least to me, it's a design flaw that bumps this product down to "average" instead of five-star (which it would be were both cords a mere foot longer!)
