WOW, what a kettle!,
By Valerie Barber (Accokeek, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunbeam KJX17 1.7 Liter 1500 Watt Water Heater (Kitchen)
I love everything about this kettle. The clear guide on the side showing the level of water (in liters). How quickly the water comes to a boil is astonishing, and when it does start to boil, the pot automatically cuts itself off. The pot also cuts off if all of the water boils out. The cord is short however to prevent tripping, but works just fine with an extension cord if necessary. This is a wonderful product!

Great Concept vs. Poor Product,
By The Review Guy (USA) - See all my reviews PROS ---- 1. Filter for keeping the crud in the kettle at bay 2. Sleek and Intuitive to handle, I figured it out within minutes of opening it from the box 3. It boils water for my daily brew of tea CONS ---- 1. Filter is HARD to put back after cleaning... I still havent got it on 2. Its NOT CORDLESS so for the price its not worth it in my opinion 3. The ON/OFF switch DOES NOT work at all !!! May be a manufacturer defect... but I was kind of counting on it .. OVERALL ------- Might as well boil water on the stove, without the auto-shut off its pretty much useless.

Great Tea Kettle,
This review is from: Sunbeam KJX17 1.7 Liter 1500 Watt Water Heater (Kitchen)
I moved to the States from Canada and was horrified to see how few electric kettles there are available in stores. The one I had back home is quite old so I left it there thinking I'll just run out to the store & buy one. WRONG! Most stores only carry a couple & they're over $40! And Macy's had one that was just plain weird!Anyhoo, I found this one and ordered it. Sunbeam is a good popular brand in Canada so I felt confident in purchasing it. It is GREAT! It doesn't have the heating coils in the bottom which is good. The coils can build up mineral deposits over time. It just has a flat metal heating element at the bottom. It is quiet and you can see the water inside boiling away. And the auto-shut off is wonderful. I'm quite pleased with my purchase. Now, if I could order some good Canadian tea from here...

A Kitchen "extra goody",

This little kettle is great. I am a tea drinker and bought it for that purpose but have found many ways to use it. Make hummingbird food and the water is hot enough to mix the sugar. Good for anything that calls for boiling water. Just wish it didn't turn off after boiling so it would be handy all the time.

Disappointed,
By Blues Picker (Canada) - See all my reviews It was good to me while it lasted. My only complaint is that it started to leak where the window meets the plastic body. When I noticed the leak, I examined the body more carefully, and I noticed some parts of the platic body were worn out. Didn't they test out the material before they put it into production? Apparently, it cannot withstand the constant exposure to heat. Next time, I am going with stainless steel instead of plastic.

Decent but not reliable or practical long term,
This review is from: Sunbeam KJX17 1.7 Liter 1500 Watt Water Heater (Kitchen)
I got this kettle for making tea in my dorm room. It works well for this purpose, but I would not recommend it to others, especially for regular use. I selected this kettle for it's low cost and good reviews, but the low quality has become apparent after semi-frequent use for about 3 months. Spend a little more and get a safer, cordless model. What I like about this kettle: It does not take long to boil, it looks sleek, it shows the water level, the heating element is a plate not a coil, it has a good removable filter for the spout, and it shuts off automatically after boiling. The 3 big drawbacks: 1. After only a a few uses I realised that a fair amount of boiling water escapes the sides of the lid while pouring - not good at all. I shut the lid firmly but it still leaks when tipped all the way, which is a safety issue. 2. It is not cordless. I didn't think this would be a problem as I only considered being able to lift it up to pour. However, refilling it is a real pain as it requires unplugging it and grappling with a trailing cord. I have taken to filling it with my water filtering jug, which works well and makes better tasting tea. If you don't want to do this then I don't recommend this kettle. 3. Though it doesn't take too long to boil, it is noisy for a minute or two. Not ridiculously loud, but enough that it could disrupt a conversation or overpower your TV for a while. I can live with this but it could be distracting in a quiet environment such as an office.

Almost perfect.,
This review is from: Sunbeam KJX17 1.7 Liter 1500 Watt Water Heater (Kitchen)
The water heats up great and doesn't take too long I just wished I had gotten one that was cordless. You see when you want to put more water in you have to unplug it and then move it over under the water faucet. This is difficult because the pot is so tall that when you try to put it under the faucet it barely squeezes in the space and the bottom touches the dirty sink. I suppose I could use a separate pitcher to pour into the water heater as apposed to using the sink directly but that's another step. I know they make the cordless kind but I accidentally didn't think about it when the order was placed.

I love this kettle. I bought it for my dorm room to heat water for tea, easy mac, oatmeal etc. It heats the water very fast and shuts off when it is done. It even melts ice incredibly fast. The only downside to this product is how the cord is attached to the kettle so it kind of gets in the way when pouring, just make sure you unplug it from the wall.

Outstanding Electric Kettle!,
By
This review is from: Sunbeam KJX17 1.7 Liter 1500 Watt Water Heater (Kitchen)
After a recent trip to the Channel Islands where my husband and I enjoyed having tea in our room using an electric kettle, we decided we needed to have one at home. After reviewing a number of those listed on Amazon and reading the reviews, we chose this Sunbeam kettle and are very pleased we did. It is a sleek-looking kettle that quickly heats water to the boiling point then automatically shuts off. We very much like the heating element, a round metal plate almost covering the bottom of the kettle. It's much better than the typical coils we saw overseas. Mentioned in one of the other reviews is the "short" cord of the kettle. It's definitely not a problem -- it's about 2 1/2 feet long, so it's plenty long enough to leave plugged in and pour from the kettle. However there's no need to leave the kettle plugged in once the water heats and the kettle shuts off. Just unplug it! We highly recommend this kettle.

I gave this product as a gift and am highly dissatisfied with it. It does not detach from a base but must have its cord attached when it is taken to be poured. I would not purchase it again.
