A Badly Designed Coffee Maker,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee DW12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
This is the worst coffee maker I've ever used. The cheat feature that should stop the coffee from dripping temporarily does not work. The coffee drips right through onto the heating plate. When the brewing is done, and you pour yourself a cup, it still leaks down onto the plate. Even after removing the basket, it STILL leaks. Also the coffee maker is impossible to clean. I'm sure a man designed this product as a woman would never create something that is difficult to clean.

Bought this device to replace it's even simpler pre-release. A little disappointed. While it does make coffe, the main job - it is the little things - when you pour, either to fill or a cup of coffee - you must keep it very slow or the lid lifts and you have quite a mess on your hands.
Secondly, the lid of the total machine, very large, won't open unless totally unobstructed and due to size maintains a huge amount of condensation which with an outside hinge pours down the back of the machine all over the counter. Not deal breaking stuff, just plan on keeping a folded kitchen towel near the machine for wiping up each time you open, fill, or pour a cup of coffee - gets old. Not impressed with the stop and serve feature - again holds water and when you attempt to reload, it drains out all over countertop. Glad I don't drink coffee - just the wife.

Defective Product,

Thought I would warn anyone considering this model. I had one for about 4-5 months before it starting "leaking" from somewhere and leaving a puddle of water under the machine. I eventually replaced it with two more of the exact same model and each time the machine caused a puddle right out of the box. It DID make a decent tasting cup of coffee if you used the proper ratio of coffee to water. However, there is obviously this troublesome defect inherent in the product.
P.S. I recommend the similar looking Sunbeam model BVSB-TGX20(23) which for less money gives you a programmable timer/brewer and auto shut-off. Plus it actually works properly!

Our coffee pot at the office died and we quickly found this item. It was received in two days and now perks every morning. Great price, great shipping (free) with one other needed item.

Makes coffee and makes a mess,

When my brewstation broke, I refused to pay more than $20 on a coffeemaker that will eventually break. The motto "You get what you pay for" definitely applies to this appliance. It does make coffee but that's about all it does successfully. The carafe isn't designed to pour cleanly so it spills all over the place. It's supposed to stop dripping when you take the carafe out but it keeps on keeping on. And the spout that pours water into the coffee grounds pours on the side so the filter bends over and you end up with more than coffee in your cup. Total waste of money. Next time I will fork out more dough for a coffeemaker that doesn't ruin my morning.

Not bad for price,

It works well enough for under $20 in our throwaway culture. Two issues I encountered:
It has a strong chemical plastic smell when it's new. You have to be careful how you set the paper filter in the basket and position the water sprinkler. The water stream can push the filter paper edge down, especially on smaller batches, so that half the water bypasses the grounds, resulting in weak coffee.

Mr. Coffee coffee maker is a real good investment. I am the only person who drinks coffee in my home, so I didn't need anything fancy. I am very happy with this product. Aside from being a good coffee maker, it is also easy to clean and very energy efficient.

Badly engineered,

Pouring coffe with lid open or shut makes a big mess every time. The water tank heater is constantly on while the appliance is on. You can hear the condensed water hiss dripping into the tank. Only the basket and pot are removable for cleaning. If you take the basket out to put in the filter and coffee, it wabbles and spills. If you leave the basket in the coffee maker and you pour in the ground coffee, if any spills in the water tank, it just sits in there and becomes a mess.Tank and basket share the same lid so you cannot separate them for adding water or coffee. A real pain to try to keep clean. I want my OLD Mr coffee back! It was 20 years old and by far better engineered than this piece of ill thought out junk!

This review is from: Sunbeam Mr Coffee 12 Cup Coffee Maker
I bought this for $15 at "wally world" It makes coffee my old sunbeam lasted about 2 years using it about 5 times a day. So this is a cost to own of $7.50 per year. I like simple appliance and am unwilling to spend $100 for a coffee maker. Use a glass tray or cookie tray underneath the coffee maker and dont worry about the drips. I am not sure what people expect in an appliance that costs the price of 2 cans of coffee but for me its fine....
