It does what its supposed to but......,

This is the first electric blanket I have ever owned. I wanted to save on my electric and I got sick of sliding between cold sheets. This blanket does its job very well. It has a very basic heat dial that has 10 heat settings. If you put it on 10 and stay under the blanket for a little while (20-40 min) you will feel on fire. The blanket includes a very long power cord, which for me is a hinderance because I have an outlet right next to my bed and the excessive cord is pooled at the side of my bed. This blanket does not have automatic shutoff so if you are a person who sleeps with a heated blanket all night long, you might want to put it on medium (between 4-6) or you may end up roasting.I've had this blanket for a month and I really like it. However, for the great price and warmth there is a tradeoff. The material. I bought this in mushroom and it sheds like crazy! If you wear sweaters, fleeces, etc. this thing will leave a whole bunch of little pillballs on it! And that was before I washed it. The material looks nice out of the package but it starts to degrade pretty quick. So this is definately a blanket you do not want to use as a throw. Another thing is that the heat on the blanket can be spotty at times. I'll lay on it and my feet will be super hot but near my neck I may be a little cold. I guess this is supposed to be the 'smart technology' that the blanket is said to have. Also if you are sensitive about feeling wire in your blanket, well you will definately feel them in this blanket. But for the price what can one expect? So, if you want a cheap electric blanket that gets very hot then this should do the trick. The tradeoff is on the material, but you will probably have to pay around double the price of this blanket to get another that doesn't shed.

This is a great electric blanket, especially for the money! It warms beautifully! It holds it's temperature evenly. It does not have the automatic shut off, which I am glad for. The only small negative I would offer about the blanket, is, that the grade of polyester that it is made of, is pilling up a bit, but what can one expect for under $40.00! I am very happy with my purchase!Chaswstorey Dallas, TX USA

I have had electric blankets since I was a little kid (going on 40 years of Electric blanket use). They use to last 5-10 years. I remember having ones that I'd have year after year! In the last 10 years or so the time they last has gotten less and less. I've always bought Sunbeam blankets, and now, I am in search of a new brand! In the last 5 years I have bought a new blanket EVERY year! It wasn't so bad when I could find them on the clearance rack for $12. But, this last 2 years, that hasn't been the case. The cheapest one I can find is around $44. A blanket needs to last longer than ONE year for that amount of money! Not to mention the landfill waste all these blankets are adding to the environment!!!This blanket didn't even make it a day! It wouldn't work at all. I tried everything I could think of. The only thing that seemed to work was covering the whole bed with a down blanket to "assist" the Sunbeam blanket in heating up! Only without the assistance, it simply did not warm all over... Near the plug it warm up, and that is about it. EDIT: I wanted to add that I returned this in all the original packaging to Amazon 3 days after purchase since trying to get it to work wasn't happening. I got my refund! I think if everyone started to return these blankets if they conk out in the first month a message might get through to the Sunbeam Company. I'm off to purchase a Sealy Diamond Electric Blanket to try!

Nice and Toasty Winter Blanket,

I highly recommend this heated blanket. Temperature settings are perfect and easy to adjust. I have one on my couch ready to use whenever I need it and another under the fitted sheet on my bed to warm it up for me at night. I bought one for everyone in my family and they love them as well.

This blanket worked for a week and then the electronics croaked. I had electric blankets that lasted for over 20 years so I had tossed the paperwork so I guess a return is outta the question. I have tried a reorder hoping I just got a fluke but will hold on to the new paperwork and get a refund for sure if this next one turns out to be a turd like the first. Most of the reviews are better than mine so I suspect a fluke, just "one of those things", so take this review with a grain of salt until I review the next one.

Nice and warm... (updated: doesn't last long),

I keep my house at 50F coz my roommates are gone for winter break, and I'm the only one in the house (I live in Wisconsin). Before using this, I used 3 layers of comforters on my bed. I sleep wearing double thick socks, long johns, and sweat pants-shirts. It was alright after the bed gets warm, but getting into bed was a torture. So, I bought the Sunbeam Royal Nights Heated Blanket, twin size for $27 w/ free shipping from Amazon. Received it within 5-6 days. Worked nicely, especially pre-heating the bed before I go in. It even gets too warm for higher setting, so I just set it 2 or 3 out of 10(highest). I don't have to bundle up anymore, and sometimes I have turn it off in the middle of the night. The product is exactly as pictured (twin comes w/ 1 controller). Some other blanket reviews said that the controller is not the same as pictured, lower quality. Mine is good. It has backlight making it easier to change the setting (or to turn off) in the dark. The blanket is very thin with the element wire going inside it, I wouldn't use it just itself. I can feel the wire (and imaginary feelings of the electricity), kinda uncomfotable, thus I gave only 4 stars. I use it between comforters. I have a queen size bed and it's big enough (I was debating to buy the queen size. Glad I didn't cause the price is more than double). The electricity usage is very low, I measured only 0.4 kWh/night max. With my utility rate, that's less than 7cents/night. So far, I've been using it for about a week, and am very happy about it. Will see how long it lasts. ******************** Update Nov.2010. The blanket is no longer working after just 1 winter. When I press the button, the light blink, but doesn't stay on. It is just a bad controller, but how can I fix that, or get a replacement? Anyway, there's not many other brand options, so I bought another one from Walmart. It's a different model with one button for on, and one button for off. Hopefully, it'll last longer. The blanket material is nicer than the one I bought from Amazon, but it's more expensive, of course. The new controller can be used for the old blanket.

This was an outstanding value. It has seen my little ones through many cold nights. I have washed this blanket and it still works perfectly. I highly recommend.

If you are searching for an electric blanket that gets very warm (dare I say hot?) this is it! The last round of electric blankets I purchased for my family were "warming blankets." They never really heated the bed up and turned off automatically in the night. Our winter nights are very cold and very long - I like to decide when to turn off my blanket (thank you very much!)The quality of the material is the only reason I did not award it all 5 stars.

Sunbeam E-blankets prone to problems,
By True Rocker (Rio Rancho, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunbeam Royal Nights Heated Blanket, Twin, Navy (Kitchen)
I have one of these, and it stops working every single night and the control starts flashing and won't stop until I reset the blanket by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Even when it works, it doesn't generate much warmth. You're better off getting a real blanket or quilt instead of this. Just do a google search on the terms "sunbeam electric blanket flashing" for a myriad of reports from similarly dissatified customers. |
