tips from other users,
By
This review is from: Sunbeam S1500 1500-Watt Classic Garment Steamer (Misc.)
Just started using this, selected Sunbeam 'cuz I've had luck with other sunbeam products. Steam starts up in about ten seconds. EXCELLENT. The pole isn't tall enough, though. Not so excellent. This has been reported by other customers on other steamers, I guess it's a common complaint. I work full-time, need to wear business dress daily; generally some type of skirt or trouser with a blouse/sweater and a casual suitjacket. I HATE spending money on sending wool-blend items to the dry cleaners... or sending linen-blend lined jackets to the dry cleaners. Now I wash them on delicate cycle, tumble dry for two or three minutes (yes, even the wool items) and then hang dry. I use the steamer to get wrinkles out of the dry garment after this. It works really well, better than trying to navigate sleeves, linings, collars, with a steam iron. Tips from another user were great... use wooden clothespins to hold the garment tight, use a cheap plastic cutting board behind the garment to steam hems, use a paper towel roll in sleeves while steaming. Boy, that was great advice. The steamer is easier for me than my iron, it is easier on my back. Some users report getting a mineral buildup in their units, I don't know if that will happen with this one (we are on well water, not municipal.)

Great Steamer,

This review is from: Sunbeam S1500 1500-Watt Classic Garment Steamer (Misc.)
I've had this steamer for a little over a month. It's working great.
CLEANING TIP: The instructions say that if you use tap water, to clean the steamer out by using a vinegar and water mixture every so often. I tried this once and it took a while to get that vinegar smell to go away. Use a couple tablespoons of bleach with water instead. Rinse out the water reservoir. Use about 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of bleach and let the steamer run for about 10 minutes. Drain the reservoir and the main unit and wipe it clean with a paper towel. TECHNIQUE TIP: It would be smart to invest in a high temperature glove. I know there are times when I almost burn myself with the steam. I found using a glove on one hand makes it much easier than trying to pin the clothes down.

I have owned several different types and brands of steamers over the last 15 years. I use them for garments and occasionally to steam drapes after they have been cleaned and hung. The Sunbeam Supreme Garment Steamer not only puts out an adequate amount of steam thanks to the 1500 watts of power, but is versatile as well. The included attachments are very accomodating. The suit hanger can be used for any type of shirt, jacket, vest, ,etc. The adjustable upper and lower clips allow you to securely hold any garment including pants, skirts, shorts, etc. while you steam out the wrinkles. The different steam head attachments give versatility for different types of fabric and finishes. The telescoping pole is great for compact storage. The water bottle is easy to fill and change. The steam hose insulation is thin but does a great job keeping the heat inside the hose instead of burning your hand. I don't know about the long term durability of this unit as I have only had it for less than 6 months, but it appears to be a quality made product.

Good steam but needs better design,
This review is from: Sunbeam S1500 1500-Watt Classic Garment Steamer (Misc.)
I have steam-ironed about 10 items.
Pros: Good amount of steam. That is the main feature. Your iron holds one cup of water but this hold about one gallon, so it can be generous with steam. Cons: The contraption to hold your clothes does not work easily. So you end up spending as much time fudging with it as you would spend time re-positioning your garment with a regular iron. The bottom pins move horizontally and cannot stay in spot. If you want to iron a shirt you need to collapse the extended pole and bend/squat to iron, because the bottom rack does not move up, you have to lower the top portion. Perhaps if you come up with a set of home-invented gadgets to hold your garment in place you can use the product effectively. The product has potential if they redesign and add such gadgets. It is a bit hard to explain so it is best to see the product in a big store and pretend to iron a shirt and a pant there to see the issues. It is very good for getting wrinkles from linens and such. However do not expect it iron the top of a pant. It is just good for the leg portion, you cannot do fine ironing and such with this one. It is still good to make your clothes acceptable looking.

I had a steamer till now from a different brand unfortunately it broke, which is why I bought this. How can you compare these two this is far more better than my old one, it's easy to use, gets out wrinkles from everything and takes out some stains at well, "SUNBEAM you didn't disappoint me"!!!

This steamer is worth it. I've had for over 2 weeks now.
speedy heat up time (in a few seconds) de wrinkles impressively the creasing clamp does its job pretty nicely no drips except the condensation from the steam which is very little I have to bend over a little when steaming, I may buy steam door pad from BBB That's about it.. I like it and would recommend this. Amazon could have packaged the box with more padding, so the box inside would not get banged up during shipping.

Upon the suggestion of a friend I bought a Garment Steamer. I must tell you it's the best investment in a long time. Besides saving dry cleaning bills, it works wonders. It's exactly as described and worked extremely well. On short notice it got my complete attire in top notch order. THANKS FOR PRODUCING SUCH A CONVENINT ITEM!

I bought this for christmas and was hoping that I would get rid of the hassle of ironing my clothes everyday when I go to office.
After trying this on both men and women apparel, I thought of posting my review. This steamer gives good steam and removes wrinkles decently. But the main problem with it is that, it cannot remove wrinkles at places that are had to reach, like the under arms of any tops. Obviously as this is not an iron, you cannot expect that your shirt/trouser/top... to be as neat as it was ironed. On other problem I found was, when I hooked a shirt/top to the hanger, I saw vapour getting accumulated on the hanger that makes the clothes wet.

OK until it stopped working,

We had one for around half year. Everything worked well earlier. One day, it just stopped working completely. The light doesn't turn red anymore when we turned it on. Very disappointed. Probably the fuse is the issue, but can't find any info. Sunbeam website ([...]) didn't even list this one as their product. Future buyers should be aware of this. Current owners, good luck.
