4.0 out of 5 stars Great indoors, rechargable, bulb burnt out
This product met my needs perfectly. I frequently work in the garage with the door open, which attracts a variety of insects. I leave this product turned on overnight after closing the garage door. By the next day, all the bugs are zapped. This keeps the spiders away because there are no insects to inspire their web building activity.

The bulb burnt out...

The lamp worked fine for a couple of month. But you have to send the lamp to customer service to have the bulb changed. This would have cost $25.

Don't buy the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bulb blows out, January 14, 2007
This review is from: Sunbeam SB980 Cordless Rechargeable Bug Zapper - Lantern Style (Lawn & Patio)
I bought 5 of these and I had to return 4 - the buld blew out wihtin months and their is no way to replace it. It has a 2 year warranty and you have to send it back to the manufacturer with a receipt to get them to send you a replacement. I sent them back and will know in a few months if this process works. What a pain.

The bulb burnt out rather quickly (less than 6 months) and I did find the owner's manual. While replacement bulbs are readily available (on eBay for instance), the manual does not describe how to replace the bulb. Instead, the manual instructs the reader to call the Customer Service Department at 888-305-0800.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bogus claims!, October 12, 2006
This review is from: Sunbeam SB980 Cordless Rechargeable Bug Zapper - Lantern Style (Lawn & Patio)
This and other bug zappers are totally bogus for outdoor use. I learned the hard way and ate my cost after buying one of these. Indoors they will attract most flies/moths, but outdoors you basically want them to kill mosquitoes and they absolutely do NOT attract or kill mosquitoes, only other bugs, including some beneficial ones that EAT mosquitoes. This technology has been proven ineffective for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great - but you have to replace the lamp, June 19, 2011

This bug zapper works really well. I have owned 3 of them - in series. They run for hours on the battery and zap very effectively. I have tried other zappers and did not like them for various reasons. We leave this one on 24/7 hanging from a hook in the ceiling just inside the front door in our entry hall. It zaps anything that makes it through the screens! Before we installed the zapper we were plagued by mosquitoes that would get into our bedroom at night, this zapper draws them away from the living area and bags them all!

The problem is that they now ship them with lamps that do not last. The first one I bought back in 2005, the lamp lasted a full season (4+ months and on 24/7). Eventually after a few years the power module that drives the lamp fails. But these units are so effective and inexpensive that I am happy to buy another one.

The one I bought in June 2011, the lamp only lasted 3 weeks. But replacement lamps are only about $2 each. Just go to replacementlightbulbs dot com and search for the F4T5/BL lamp. Replacing it is quite simple, just remove the 4 deep set screws from the base (Phillips screw heads). Remove the base, then remove 2 small screws that hold the lamp in. Very simple to put the new lamp back in and replace the screws. Replacement lamps tend to last a full season if left on all day as we do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a good year.., July 5, 2009

This was a real find - a rechargable zapper that worked indoors and out. The light died after one year of steady use inside and out. The light was excellent as well for those late nights on the deck.

Wish it had lasted longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, lasts about a year, March 20, 2007

Works great, traps a lot of insects especially the small ones (little flies that other zappers will never catch). The only drawback is the bulb burns out after a year. I purchased a replacement bulb online but it lasted only a month. Now I have a white bulb that I purchased from a department store. Still does the job although may not be as attractive to insects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sunbeam rechargeable bug zappers, December 28, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sunbeam SB980 Cordless Rechargeable Bug Zapper - Lantern Style (Lawn & Patio)
We have owned two of these bug zappers for over 2 years...we take them in our RV when we travel, to kill the bugs that get inside as we open and close the doors often...and when we are home, we keep one upstairs in the bedroom and one in the downstairs living room, to get any little

mosquitos or bugs that come inside and drive us crazy buzzing around our heads...they work great! Almost as soon as we turn them on, we hear a

"zap" as the offending insect is caught. I bought two more of them as a gift for our son-in-law at Christmas to use in their RV. He's happy too.

They are portable, cordless and lightweight, so easy to take anywhere, and rechargeable too! I highly recommend them.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Zap for your Buck!, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam SB980 Cordless Rechargeable Bug Zapper - Lantern Style (Lawn & Patio)
Unfortunately, this item is not worth your money. Yes, it does work and zaps those annoying flying critters, but the enclosed light bulb doesn't last; within a couple of days it started to fade away, and that's having it plugged into the AC adapter! Further, you can't replace this bulb. This has been an expensive learning experience. Save your money.
