Doesn't hold different brush types,
By Murray Family (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunbeam #SBUV102 UV Counter Top Unit Sanitizer (Health and Beauty)
I just bought this for the same price at the drug store and it's a great idea and design, but it won't hold different brush types. It really only holds the normal skinny handle brushes and most people don't use those anymore. None of the kids brushes would fit and the adult ones were a battle to get in and out. I'll be taking it back and maybe looking for a cup version. Very sleek looking and great design though if you only use skinny brushes.

sunbeam cleans the brush head,, bacteria will grow everywhere else, inside the sanitizer,
By Then I cleaned the whole inside the sanitizer the best I could. Even washed it out with Hydrogen Peroxide and followed up with alcohol. I tried to make sure the kids washed their whole toothbrush each time they used them. I even followed up behind them and washed them myself. After a month I checked inside under the toothbrush holder again and it was once again nasty and black scum growing everywhere. I tossed the whole unit in the trash. They should have used a full length light, or some kind of reflective surface might have worked to bounce the UV rays around inside. But hiding the problem area from view doesnt make it safe. Even though I think it was a fantastic idea, I think its a horrible design , and I would not suggest buying this at all. I can see why the price dropped so much so quickly. Im surprised there has not been a voluntary or mandatory recall on it.

I love this thing! I am older, and hard to please, so I'm
delighted to tell you skeptic's this one is great. Plug it in, put your bush in slide the door closed, and the cleanin' begins! Execellent price, works with electric brushes, and simple to use...what else could you ask for? Be prepared to wait though, takes awhile to get it, but well worth the wait.

The Sunbeam #SBUV102 UV Counter Top Unit Sanitizer fits my electric toothbrush head, regular toothbrush, flosser pic and scraper. It`s a huge plus that I can plug this model in and don`t need to use batteries. It`s quick and easy to use.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide instead,

There is a much cheaper alternative to this product.
Go to the drug store and buy a quart bottle of hydrogen peroxide. It should cost about $.99. Come home and fill a small glass with the hydrogen peroxide. Then put your toothbrush in the hydrogen peroxide for about an hour, or over night if you have the time. At the end of the hour you will have a disinfected toothbrush. You will notice that bubbles will form around the toothbrush as the hydrogen peroxide disinfects it. I have read that hydrogen peroxide degrades in sunlight. That is why they put it in a dark colored bottle. Again, I just leave my toothbrush in the hydrogen peroxide over night with the lights off. I try to flex the bristles a few times also to make sure it penetrates into the bristles. Remember, hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizer / bleach and is used to whiten teeth. I am not a rocket scientist but I know that bacteria and viruses don't like the stuff at all. It is also used as a rocket fuel, so don't go mixing it with the chemicals from your son's chemistry set. :) Other than that, the use of hydrogen peroxide should be uneventful and will get the disinfecting job done at minimal cost.

Mold incubator,
By lew "lwndw123" (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews In addition, power unit connector made of ordinary iron - not brass or even stainless steel. Unit is used in high humidity area, and sooner or later (sooner than later) connector starts rusting. Although it is easy to clean the outside part of the conenctor, it is impossible to clean inside part. Therefore, after some time unit was disposed to garbage. In the process of disposing I discovered some screws on the bottom - build not from iron but rust. Bad design, bad engineering, bad manufactiring. Good idea. I will try to get other one, from other manufacturer

I did a lot of research and the Sunbeam Toothbrush Sanitizer SBUV 102 was the least expensive. It does the same thing for a fraction of the price of other appliances.
Some of the reviews we read said you cannot insert a toothbrush with a large handle. The prongs in the receptacle are tight, but by turning and using pressure it can be done if you have the strength. The only negative comment we have is the alignment of the plastic door. Ours shuts hard with a pop and will not turn on until properly closed. We have had our unit for only a couple of weeks and wonder how long it will last. We like it and figure if it works for at least a year then we will have made a good purchase.

I purchased this sanitizer for my family in the hopes of not buying as many toothbrushes. It seems as if one of my children was always getting strep-throat. We would all have to have new toothbrushes. This sanitizer seemed too be great at first. It does collect water at the bottom of the unit, and grow funky green stuff at the bottom. This funk can still reach the handles of tooth brushes--yuck! I would clean it out and no big deal. The last time I did it, the light quit working. I never touched the light, and its not supposed to need replacing! I have not had it a year! Lame! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UV3G9Q/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_img

Made In China!!,
By
This review is from: Sunbeam #SBUV102 UV Counter Top Unit Sanitizer (Health and Beauty)
As with the review done by "S. Trenn "Rainsgold" (Harrisburg,PA)"
This product clearly states that using this product over time may lead to Lead Exposure, and to wash your hands after using this product!! If anything has the "Made In China" label on it,basically you know its garbage and will eventually poison you over time. Or just downright kill you! Stay away from this garbage! |
