Great umbrella, but how do you get the auto tilt to work?,

We bought the 11 foot auto tilt market umbrella with a rope pulley system. It's great, but there are no instructions on how the auto tilt mechanism works. There is no button where it should be and we have tried just about anything to get it to work without success. We like the umbrella and will keep it. I contacted sunbrella.com, but the response we received is that they only provide the fabric portion of the umbrella. What?
