3.0 out of 5 stars Major design flaw (own two), May 12, 2008
This review is from: Suncast GH1732 Outdoor Trash Hideaway (Lawn & Patio)
I have had two of these for a few years. They are extremely durable, but there is a major design flaw.

The inside has plastic ribs design to help strengthen the containers.
This is where the problem is. When you fill trash bags up inside the container, the bags expand and the trash
nestles into the grooves. This makes pulling a full bag of trash out of the the container a major struggle. If
your trash bag is on the thin side, it will tear several times and you will be wrestling, tugging, pulling, twisting
and yanking with everything you have.

The other part of this is that the larger of the two openings is smaller than the overall width of the inside. Therefore the bag is bigger inside and all expanded and caught up inside the inner ribs. I dread Trash Tuesdays because of the pain that it has become to remove the trash.

One other note, the containers features very deep graining which keeps the item from looking like cheap plastic, but beware, this also means the dirt settles in. The only way I have found to truly clean these is with a power washer.

and I plan on buying at least 2 more. No tools needed for assembly. It took more time to get the parts out of the box than it did to put it togwether.

I originally bought them for the pool area. They don't stand out like a big blue rubbermaid would, plus, the lid is attached. I live in Texas and have teenagers, the big rubbermaid lid, if not clamped, would blow into the next county. Ths lid stays on and closed, with a quick slide, it clamps closed. The elements stay out and the top doesn't blow open. My husband loved them so much, I bought one for his deer camp. Since the cold weather hit, I brought one into the house so the teenagers (heaven forbid) didn't have to go to the garage for recycling. Actually, they didn't, I was always retrieving from the trash. It worked, we have more recycling to put out each week than we ever had. I'm keeping it in there and ordering a replacement for the pool area and another one to place next to it labeled 'recycling'.

I can't say enough about these except that Amazon was the best price I found anywhere. The perk? I you signed up for Amazon Prime....you can get it in 2 days...no additional shipping charges!

This is a good concept but beware sharp edges inside when lifting out the bag. You may want to line this with a separate plastic bag to prevent tearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Garbage Can, January 13, 2011

I know it sounds odd to get excited about a garbage can, but I really like this one. My sister in law has one and I could not resist ordering one for my home, too. Yes, I use it inside my home. It works perfectly in my kitchen. It fits great in the area adjacent to my dishwasher. I like the fact that it has a lid. I can have babies and toddlers over to my house and I don't have to worry about them tipping my trash can over or trying to get into it. The "locking" lid is also a very convenient feature. It keeps any bad odor inside it and my home can still smell great. This garbage can also has a large capacity for a busy wife and mom who is constantly cooking, baking, and cleaning up messes of ginormous proportions.

I read the reviews about the ridges on the inside, so before I put it together, I covered the ridges with duct tape to smooth everything down. We have not had a problem with the garbage bag liner catching on the ridges and tearing the bag.

I keep telling my mom and friends how much I am enjoying my garbage can and they tease me about it. But, this is a product that I can really stand behind. It is well made, durable, easy to use and simple to put it together. I highly recommend this garbage can to anyone in the market for a new one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Critters Can't Get In, May 16, 2007
This review is from: Suncast GH1732 Outdoor Trash Hideaway (Lawn & Patio)
I Love this product!!!

I paid $51.90 but got free S&H.

It really is as nice as everyone else has said.

V-E-R-Y easy to assemble.

The Lid even locks.

It not only keeps rain out but whatever critter may wander into your yard.

I bought this and the ReelSmart Sink to go on my deck because we eat crabs all summer long and it makes for very easy clean up between the two.

The are both absolutely wonderful.

So much so that my hubby even said he LOVES the sink too! (Because the water reels the hose up for him)

I paid $99.99 for the ReelSmart Outdoor Sink Station with Auto-Rewind Hose Reel #SK-241501 But FREE S&H.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buying another, December 23, 2009

I was looking for a trash receptacle for our decks that wasn't obtrusive. After reading a few reviews I was a bit skeptical of purchasing this item. Once I received it, all my fears were gone. The material is very durable for outside use and the wood grain look gives it a nice appearance. The lid opens in two parts so the reviews of getting full bags out being difficult is a mystery to me. The center part of the lid opens to put items in and also has a latch to keep it closed. Opening up the entire lid makes bag retrieval a cinch. I plan on purchasing a few more to place around our decks for easy trash disposal. More color options would be a plus.

I have been looking for an outside trash can when I saw and used this product at a neighbor's backyard party, I was sold. It is nicely design, pretty sturdy and holds a lot of trash (important).

This is a fine garbage can for my family & daycare. We emptied the old one, two or three times a day, now just in the evening. Any time I can save to be with the kids is golden. It hides finger marks well. It was easy to put together. Very strong.

Over the years my daycare kids have destroyed many things, including garbage cans. I think this can will last longer than all the rest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed, October 12, 2007

We bought this because my toddler was having trash can issues. Not only was he throwing away things that shouldn't be thrown away, but he was digging out trash too. Yuck. So we bought this in the hopes of keeping him out of the trash. It works like a charm. It was easy to put together--it just snaps together, no screws or anything needed. And it's well made and looks nice. It's a good size but not too big for the kitchen, which is where ours is. This was a fantastic buy and I'd highly recommend it.

I've read a few complaints regarding the interior of this trash can and the way it's molded. Yes, I can see where it would snag the bag. A simple solution; Use the cardboard box it's delivered in to line the inside of the container. It took all of about five minutes to cut up the cardboard, line the inside and set it up for use. Don't let the other reviews that complain of this distract you.

We bought this for our courtyard to put our pet waste bags in - within a larger bag of course. When the lid is closed and latched there is zero odor. It's durable, attractive and serves a purpose. The price here is excellent too.
