5.0 out of 5 stars THIS is the storage chest you need!
Our family bought some new patio furniture this year, and now we have 4 chair cushions, 1 chaise lounge cushion, and 3 cushions that go on our new 3-person swing! Leaving them out isn't an option if you want them to stay nice, and storing them in the house or garage and bringing them out when you want to sit down isn't very practical.

So I started looking for storage...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT secure
Bought this item for storage in my apartment building garage. I carted it home, very happy with the price. I put it together and loaded it up - great capacity. Only problem is, it does not lock securely. I put a lock on it, no problem. I then lifted the lid to see what would happen. I pushed up on the lid, which allows the left door to open.

I know...

So I started looking for storage chests. My husband didn't believe that Amazon would carry such items, but being a long-time Amazon-shopper, I know that it's the first place to go for info and reviews on good products to buy!

I saw that smaller storage chests are just too small. One of them had a number of reviews saying that you can't even put cushions to 4 chairs in there. I knew we needed something bigger.

We are thrilled with this storage chest. My husband said it was a pleasure to put together - ridiculously easy - no tools required and the plastic pieces just snap together! I wish I could say the same for the rest of our patio furniture! Also, this item is extremely well-made. You can open the lid, or prop the lid up with the stick provided (like a grand piano's small stick) and open the doors. You can also put a padlock on it.

This is an attractive addition to our patio and it holds our 8 cushions with room to spare!

Enjoy your summer on the patio!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good feel to the material, easy assembly, attractive and solid, June 26, 2007

The title says it all. After reading the other glowing reviews and comparing prices, I decided it was almost a wash price-wise to buy online vs local. The box it comes in is large and somewhat awkward so I decided to let UPS deliver it! It came with a minor amount of box scuffs but the product inside was fine. (If you live upstairs, the delivery will be a little tricky.) The large box can later be used to slide several kids down a grassy hill together.

The plastic material is a good color and very tough. It is well finished and designed to be stiff but also flexible. The pieces were all straight and fit together very well. I had the whole thing together (with a hand from my 8 yr old) in about 10 minutes. It is best to assemble the unit where you intend to have it live since it is pretty big. Where I installed it, I have a rock wall that protrudes out around it on each side. It was 2" too big and I crammed it in anyway. I must have beat and slammed on this thing for 20 minutes and I finally got it in there to find it just wouldn't work well. I then spent another 15 minutes getting it out. After all was said and done, the thing works as if I had never abused it at all!! Very resilient!!

I used this storage unit as on outside "dumpster" to store trash bags in so I don't have to step around them and have the smell in the garage anymore during the summer. It cleans out great with the hose and it comes with a "prop bar" that slides down inside one wall to hold up the lid if necessary. The front splits and opens up barn door style and the door design works very well, the doors can be removed easily too.

I built a 2x6 wood base on the bottom to give it more stability and weight but that isn't required. There are 4 spots already molded in the floor of the unit for bolts if you like. There is also a spot on the back walls for a 12" shelf about 12" or so from the top if this is desired.

All in all a great purchase, I wish this had been available a long time ago!

UPDATE JAN 2009:
Unit is still in great shape after a couple years of outdoor use. I am still happy with the purchase and it has served its light duty "dumpster" purpose very well. It cleans up easily from grease or other trash related messes. Overall, this continues to be a winner and should last for many years to come.

Minor Use and Foundation Notes: The unit really needs to be on a level surface. My son uprooted the stakes I had it anchored with and until I got it re-anchored, the lid/doors wouldn't shut right. In addition, my wife has a hard time keeping the lid secured in the back due to opening it up too far and then not shutting it right. I routinely have to re-open it, re-seat the rear hinge and then close it. In essence, you need two hands to close it right and it requires a little attention due to the removable nature of the lid and the "prop-bar/kickstand" on the right front. This isn't a huge problem, just something to keep in mind if it will be used by kids or lots of people who won't pay much attention to this.

UPDATE 03/01/2011: So far, so good! Still going strong, no defects except slight fading. Warpage is minimal and unit still works about 90% of how it did when new. Plastic is still pliable and everything works the same. Note (FWIW) that this unit sits between my house and the neighbor on the east side so it doesn't get 100% direct sun all day. More like 1/3 of the day. I'm still very happy with this purchase, buy this with no regrets!

I know these types of units are not the most secure but I expect to make any would-be thief have to work a little if they want in my storage unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product but a lot for shipping - my mistake, August 2, 2005
The product is just fine. I could have purchased a different brand of the same thing at a local Lowes Hardware for an extra $20.00 and saved $25.00 on shipping. The reason I bought it was because I thought I was gaining a few inches in depth that would have been helpful. Turns out the measurements were exactly the same. The advertised measurements were outside vs inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice storage unit, July 8, 2006
Very nice outdoor storage unit. Super easy to assemble. We purchased this shed to store pool chemicles. Since it is made entirely from a cast plastic, with no metal components, it is perfect to meet our needs. Pool chemicls tend to corrode metal very quickly.

**Update. Unit is still in very good condition after almost 3 years.

Received the product very quickly -- appreciate having it delivered instead of picking it up. Great price and very easy to put together, I did not really need to use the directions. Recommend if placing on ground to purchase 6 of the concrete patio pavers (16 X 16) -- they fit perfectly under it to provide a base so water and dirt does not get inside. I plan on ordering another to keep garden tools in before the price changes.

I needed enclosed storage for all of my supplies and feed that I use with my goats. This unit does everything that I need, with room to spare.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best "tack box" ever..., November 11, 2007

This is the sturdiest and most weather resistant "tack box" I have ever had, I like that it is easy to clean (just hose it off), it is also resistant to sun, rain and horse nibbling. I put this item together by myself, you need to follow the directions exactly...and you need to place it on a level surface otherwise you will forfeit your investment. I have not had any problems with this item, ever. I have had mine for about 4 years, and I still love it. Also this item when fully assembled and unladened is fairly easy to transport if you have a friend or a dolly, I have moved it all by myself (I am a small girl). It holds all my stuff and I feel comfortable knowing that it is safe because I can lock it up and unless the thief is going to completely destroy the box it's pretty much impossible to get into, beleive me I have tried. The assembly instructions also come with a template for making shelves from wood, which is also pretty easy to do if you are handy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pricey for what you get, if you get it at all., May 18, 2005

This review is from: Suncast GS3000 Horizontal Storage Shed, 45-cubic ft (Lawn & Patio)
I was more or less forced to buy this product because I had very precise size requirements and this product fitted them. I was very disappointed by the quality of the product for the cost. It comes in about 19 different pieces, all of which are a hollow plastic polymer. It is fairly lightweight, which could be good or bad depending on what you plan to do with it. At the $200+ price, you'd think they would include a shelf, but they only give you a stencil to make it yourself out of 'shelving material'.

My biggest complaint was that I was missing four of the pieces and had other extra pieces when I received it. I got bounced back and forth between Amazon and Suncast's customer service before I got the right people at Suncast to send me replacement parts (which took over a week to arrive). On top of that, they didn't even send me the right replacement parts! After another phone call and explanation, more parts were sent. If I keep the extras I have, and make a couple more calls, I may have enought for a second shed. Ugh.

Directions are ok, but they'll make you scratch your head as you look through all the similiar looking parts. Especially when they don't send you the right pieces!

This item arrived promptly and in good condition. The construction is sturdy and interior very capacious. However, the top tends to shift from side to side, rather than snap snuggly in place over the bottom. With care, it works well.
