I have three of these. One of them split along the bottom front corner after being full of rain just three times. There was no freezing issue (I live in South-Central Texas), just the fact that that much pressure from that much water, visibly strains the corners of this design. I should have bought round rain barrels because the water pressure is more evenly distributed. Two other issues with this product: The hoses are of very cheap quality and the valve attachment hardware is even worse. They are inclined to leak at the bottom valve or not release any water at all unless jiggled. They do need to be placed at a considerably high level to get enough force out of the bottom valve. I have two of mine 16" off the ground and the other 24" off the ground.
I managed to patch the split in the cracked rain barrel and so far it's holding, but if I replace it, it will be with a round design.

This is a great product for outdoor use and was easy to assemble. We put ours on 4 tiles and one row of 6 cinderblocks that cost an addition $11.00. I like that we can just screw in our hose, turn the valve on and be able to water anywhere. We will save money on our water bill to water our garden this year and may need to buy another one if we add to our garden and flower bed next year.

We purchased this to help water the garden (got it discounted), and avoid having to run the hose back and forth all the time.

Prior to installing it under the gutter, I set it under the eves on an area that didn't have gutters, and it filled up pretty quickly. The screen keeps out the big chunks, leaves, etc., but depending on what's on your roof you may end up with dark colored water. No problem for watering the garden (and I wasn't expecting to drink it anyway).

The lower hose attachment is pretty handy, and the upper "overflow" hose lets you direct where the excess goes.

Where we live, it freezes hard (for about 6 months straight) but if you empty it prior to freeze-over, it keeps it from cracking/breaking (as a previous review mentioned), and it's easy to fill up again in the spring with a couple shovel-fuls of snow melting.

Will be looking for more when it drops back down into my price range.

We're about to go into our 3rd summer using these. They are still in great shape. The lid locks very tightly - it's pretty hard to get off but that's a good thing if you have little kids - no need to worry about them opening it up and falling into it. The screen keeps out most of the junk. The hoses and connectors are sturdy and the product is MADE IN THE USA - which is something we like to consider with any purchase. They're not very decorative; however, they're so low-profile that they really blend in - I don't really even notice mine. We're buying 2 more so we can string them together and hold more rainwater.

Overall, and excellent product for a great price and we're definitely getting our money's worth.

I bought two of these at Lowe's. The first began to leak within two months. I exchanged it for a new one. Within two months the other one also cracked and began to leak. I exchanged it. Three months later the first replacement cracked and leaked! I returned them both and got my money back.
I think these rain barrels work well but are not designed to continuously hold water. If you were to empty them all the time you MIGHT have better luck than I did.

I own a rain gutter business and have seen a lot of rain barrels. This one I have installed at least 100 times and like because of the following: It is affordable, has it's own short hose with valve, has a large screened top to filter debris and stop mosquitoes and most important it is very easy to clean. Some of the other barrels you can't get a hand inside. How are you suppose to clean out when the water goes stagnate? Of all the these I've installed only one broke and that was because it was not drained for winter in Flagstaff and froze solid.

I just received and the set up was easy. The color fits right in with the landscape. The top cover has a screen which can be removed and cleaned. Much sturdier than I thought. So far I am pleased and waiting for some rain to fill it up.

Easy to setup. Start to finish in about 30 minutes. Rained .25" the next evening and the Suncast barrel filled to the top. Now, as soon I receive the pump I ordered at the same time I'll pump the water to another storage container.

Update 07/26/2013

Bought another of these barrels. First one continues to work fine after 4 years. Still looks good and does the job. I added the second one to store overflow run off from the first one. Easy to connect but you do need to buy parts from suncast website. Cost about $10 for the parts including shipping.
