I got this hoping to find an easier way to make a raised plant bed in an awkward location than building something from scratch, and it worked great. The form fit together as easy as toy legos! Just be sure to put the pieces together in order as I accidentally completed the bottom and then realized I had to attach the top pieces first. I was able to assemble it on my patio and just lift it into place onto level ground (slight slope for good drainage), allowing me to create a flower bed where there was hard clay soil. I had this assembled and in place in well under an hour, leaving the rest of the day to fill with soil and plants.

It takes 17 cubic feet of soil, which is a lot, but I was able to fill the lower layers with peat and save myself a lot of expensive soil and lifting. Although I planted bulbs which won't have deep roots and topped them with pansies and other winter plants, the bed is plenty deep in case you need it. I filled the bottom level with drainage stones just in case.

The brown plastic body is not unattractive being the exact color and texture of my brown resin wicker patio furniture so it looks very natural next to my patio. I especially like the two levels as I made this into a winter/spring seasonal flower bed. Filled with plants it looks great, and is a great display as well as very functional.

I also found this on Amazon much cheaper than anywhere else (about $90 all inclusive), less even than the big box store that also has them in stock.

I would certainly use these again and gladly recommend them to a friend.

I'm very pleased with the Suncast raised beds. I wanted to start doing a square foot garden and the size of the beds worked out perfectly. I bought two of the raised beds and instead of stacking the beds, I used the extra sides to make another 4x4 foot bed. It was very easy to put together, the only issue I had was that they had forgotten to include the stakes in the packages. I made a phone call to their customer service and I received the stakes in a couple of days. Overall a good experience.

I had either not realized how large my yard is, or how small four feet is, so this is smaller than I expected. Even so, it is a solid little thing! The directions are so step-by-step clear, they make putting a bookshelf together look challenging.

It will take a lot of dirt to fill, but I consider it a good investment with the many years I expect it to endure the seasons. There's a landscaper down the road from me who says he will fill it with a good organic compost for vegetables- at about a tenth the cost of bags from the store.

I got it set up in about ten minutes, and can't wait for spring so I can start planting! It looks like it will easily hold four tomato plants with some herbs in between. I'll update my review with a photo once I plant everything in the spring.

*Update 06FEB2012: I bought a second one, and will likely purchase more in different sizes later. I am so pleased with the brand, that I will look for other Suncast products in the future as well.

It did take a lot of dirt to fill. I ordered a cubic yard of 50/50 compost/soil mix from a local landscape company. That cost me about $40- about a tenth what I'd have paid for bags of dirt from the nursery. It took me a VERY long time to shovel all that dirt into these things, so buy now if you expect to be planting this spring!

I do a lot of amazon shopping but don't write many reviews, thought I should explain this product a little. I was unsure when I purchased it since other Suncast products get marginal reviews (like the hose reels) but I purchased one anyway. I have an area along the side of my house that gets a lot of sun but I didn't want to plant anything in the ground, against the house. This was the only product that was big enough. Its essentially a perfect 4ft square.

It assembled in a ten minutes although the plastic machined parts do not always fit perfectly, they do fit. It comes with four large nails that allow it to be staked into the ground. It has no bottom, only four walls and one partial divider across the middle. The soil is continuous throughout the box, the center piece does not go to the floor only across the top. It takes about 16-17 cubic feet of soil to fill it. Looks great and I don't have to worry about chemicals from treated wood leaching into my vegies.

The day I put it together, I ordered two more.

I love this raised bed. I have problems with rabbits, so I purchased several beds and changed the configuration so that the raised beds aren't tiered. Instead of a tier, I have a 4' x 4' bed and a 2' x 4' bed.

When I had raised beds that weren't as tall, rabbits loved to make their nests in the bed. These beds are perfect because they are too high for the rabbits to get into.

I am so impressed by this raised bed that I now have over 10 Suncast raised beds in my garden. I have raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, green peppers, and blue berries in the beds. It's so much easier to take care of my garden now that the raised beds are high from the ground.

I've had two other brands of raised beds and got rid of them because the Suncast raised beds are so superior to others on the market -- the sides of the Suncast raised bed stay straight (others bend with the weight of the soil). They look great too. I didn't want wood raised beds due to bug issues, so the Suncast raised beds are perfect for me.
