3.0 out of 5 stars go away snow!
This shovel is as advertised but it's a bit tough to use. The longer you make the pole, the more unwieldy it is. You need to shovel small amounts at a time and have some upper body strength to do more than a small roof at any one time.

Purchased this roof rake at the end of December due to the heavy snow and ice in New England. Product arrived nicely packaged with all parts included. Assembly was easy. Particularly liked the design with 2 supporting brackets attached from the shovel to the handle. The rake worked as hoped, light-weight but sturdy and a good length. Also pliable enough to bend to the contour of my (addition) roof.

Have used it twice so far and it it very well made, I am confident of its quality. Buy with confidence.

I ordered this on Sunday because the weather report said we were going to get a lor of snow later in the week I had meant to get one earlier in the year but forgot about it so I had already checked reviews on several others which didn't have as long of reach (which I needed). We have Prime with Amazon so it arrived 2 days later with no shipping charge. It took about 10 minutes to put together. Well, on Thursday, it started snowing and by Friday we had over 29" of snow (deepest snow I have ever seen in 30 hours time). We have a 4 level house and it worked great for 3 of the levels. I was able to clear off over 65' of roof line on the front of the house in about 20 minutes to about 8-10 feet up the roof (the snow was very fluffy). The rods snap together and did bow quite a bit when they are all connected (21' reach). But that actually helped me reach some parts of the roof I couldn't have otherwise. I could not reach our upper roof but it is 22' directly above our deck (which is 8' above the ground. My neighbors watched me using it and are going to order their own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but it works..., August 26, 2006
This review is from: Suncast SRR2100 24-Inch Snow Shovel Roof Rake with 20-Foot 3-3/8- Inch Reach (Lawn & Patio)
This rake seems to have a nice design and is fairly light weight. If you just use 1 extension piece it's pretty sturdy and looks like the photo on the box - a straight pole. But we were very surprised to see how much bow there is to the pole when you've got more extensions attached to it. The longer it is, the more the rake "dips", and it becomes pretty awkward to position it where you want it. It felt something like trying to land a great big fish with one of those old fashioned long bamboo poles!

But at any rate, for us, it was still a good purchase because it allows us to reach every inch of our 1 story home's roof. (So we can drag down all the big cotton piles which accumulate from our neighbor's cottonwood tree and never seem to blow off.) I'm sure in winter it'll work great to scrape just a few feet of snow away from the edge of the roof/gutters - because we'll only need 1 extension to reach - but it's still August, we're not anxious to test that!

4.0 out of 5 stars be careful to recheck wingnuts for tightness, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Suncast SRR2100 24-Inch Snow Shovel Roof Rake with 20-Foot 3-3/8- Inch Reach (Lawn & Patio)
It definitely does the job and is not difficult to assemble. However, I would have liked warning in the instructions to recheck all nuts for tightness before every use. This is critical because the instructions tell you not to overtighten those nuts.

I lent it to a neighbor, and when he was finished one of the braces (and the bolt and two wingnuts securing it) was missing, unlikely to be seen again before our snow melts. This is important because Suncast does NOT carry replacement parts for it -- and their customer service will tell you to contact local hardware stores. The retailer who sold it told me Suncast doesn't provide them with replacement parts and they don't carry custom machined braces.

Long story short: the product is good, but you're on your own if you need to replace a part.

I had ice dams forming in my gutters and I had seen an article in the paper about roof brooms or rakes when used properly eliminating this problem. Your product was rated pretty high on the web so I sent for one to give it a try,I was very impressed with the ease of use of the product. Yes the pole when fully extended does tend to bend a little but it's really not a problem, I have a ranch house and was able to extend all the way up to the ridge vent and pull the snow down and off the roof. My ice dams were cleared up in just a few days,I'm ready for the next snow with my new whiz bang roof rake.No more ice dams for me:)

This review is from: Suncast SRR2100 24-Inch Snow Shovel Roof Rake with 20-Foot 3-3/8- Inch Reach (Lawn & Patio)
I have a 1-1/2 story cape cod style house in the Midwest. For years, I've had ice dams on my roof which would leak into the kitchen -- making the paint on the ceiling peel and crack. Finally, I decided to see what could be done about it and discovered snow rakes. I read all the reviews and bought this one - the 20 ft version. It shipped quickly, which impressed me. I picked free super saver shipping which said it would take 5-9 days but I got it in 4 days, which was great. It assembled easily with just a screwdriver. I started out using just 3 poles to get the hang of it, and worked up to all 4. By nature it's a little awkward to control because it's so long but it's not bad. The aluminum poles will bow slightly, but they need to be lightweight aluminum or you'd never be able to lift it up to your roof. I've used it 3 times now and am getting pretty skilled at using it. And actually, it's really fun to use! All you do is push the rake up as far as you want it to go and pull back and gravity does the rest - the snow comes tumbling down! It won't take built-up ice off the roof, naturally, but if you are prompt about raking the snow off, ice damming should pretty much be a thing of the past. I have found that wearing leather gloves gives you a better grip, compared to cloth or knit gloves. There is a dark colored end pole, which has texture for good grip, but when you're working the roof, you'll be gripping different sections of the pole as you pull the snow down towards you and the plain aluminum poles are more slippery and leather gloves give you a bit more control. For reference, I am a 5'3" female and this is incredibly easy to use. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I live in Northern Vermont, February 9, 2009
This review is from: Suncast SRR2100 24-Inch Snow Shovel Roof Rake with 20-Foot 3-3/8- Inch Reach (Lawn & Patio)
I've had this rake for two years now and it has powered through every Vermont storm with no problem. And we've had a lot of snow the last two years. A roof rake sure beats climbing up there with a regular shovel...

Just the other week one of the wing-nuts on the shovel came loose causing one of the braces to swing free. I tried to just finish up without fixing the loose brace and the brace ended up snapping off... Totally my fault for not keeping the wing-nuts tight. Anyways I contacted Suncast customer service and they sent me a replacement brace free of charge. Great service! Great rake! Just remember to keep the wing-nuts fastened tight.

It works as mentioned by numerous reviewers. The flex in the handle is a nuisance but probably unavoidable without excessive weight or cost. The blade did snap in extreme cold. I emailed the manufacturer and they shipped a replacement at no cost with no hassle at all. I had it a bit less than a year when this happened but Suncast never required proof of purchase or anything but my statement that it had broken. A good company that stands behind their product.

I purchased the rake the end of December and received it the first week in January (quick delivery). Upon opening the box, I found that the bolts and nuts were missing. I contacted the supplier and were told to purchase them myself. After a few e-mails, they agreed to issue me a credit for the missing parts. They expected me to pay (again) for the missing parts.
