Excellent read!, August 15, 2000

This historical romance has all the elements I love in a good read. A heroine I can identify with, a hero to fall in love with, plenty of drama, interesting secondary characters, and most of all, a special love story. I'm looking forward to the next book by Janet Mills.

Take the phone off the hook, find a comfy place, and prepare yourself to want to remain with Janet Mills' SUNDANCE until the last page is turned. Historical romance has been tempered with modern dilemmas in SUNDANCE to create a delicious combination sure to delight the reader.
California "Callie" Dalton accepted the tutoring position for Marshal Trevor Jacobs' sister, expecting a young girl in need of tutoring. Trevor extended the invitation to Callie believing the widow would be far older than her twenty-five years. While both Callie and Trevor each found themselves shocked to be confronted with each other, Trevor's sister Bethany's condition creates an immediate crisis that demonstrated Callie's abilities to cope with a child the town called crazy.
Independent and resourceful, Callie's "widowhood" conceals a deep pain. In the year 1892 a woman doesn't admit that she is divorced, and nor that she is unable to bear children. Likewise an attractive bachelor like Trevor is expected to marry and have children. But the memory of his mother's pain over a still birth combined with his sister's mental illness makes him determined not to marry and have children.
Both Callie and Trevor are unprepared for the attraction that immediately brings them together. But they soon find that love isn't always enough to overcome fear. While love brings remarkable healing to Callie's young charge, it doesn't seem to be enough to overcome the difficulties that separate her from Trevor.
SUNDANCE is one of those fun reads in which one wants to linger. Perhaps it's the light touches of Christmas trees and kittens, or the capable handling of overcoming impossible obstacles that lulls the reader into the author's web. Regardless of the cause, this reviewer strongly recommends SUNDANCE to historical romance lovers.
