Patrick Wolf's celebration of 10 years in the music industry comes at the perfect time for me. I saw him in concert for the first time in September of 2011. He played an acoustic set at Bimbo's 365, and I was in awe of how deeply his music resonated in an acoustic style...which is saying a lot, given the depth and emotion in his studio cuts.

I left that concert hoping that he'd eventually release a live or acoustic album.

And here it is! This 2-disc acoustic album is the closest you'll get to the intimacy of a quiet, homey concert without actually attending one.

What's great about this album is that Patrick didn't slight any of his albums. He selected three songs from his first four albums, and then three from the Lupercalia era (2 from the album itself and "Bitten" from the Brumalia EP).

Being able to hear his entire career summarized in a uniform style is not just a pleasure, but a brilliant way to introduce (or reintroduce) the listener to his catalog.

Songs like "Bitten," which were already subtle and nearly acoustic, still feel different and updated (though I'll admit to missing the theremin).

Others are like an entirely new song, like the dramatically revised "Vulture." And although you may miss the original sound and lyrics, these revamped tunes deserve the spotlight for showcasing Patrick Wolf's uncanny ability to formulate timeless melodies with powerful lyrics.

The masterpiece on the album is the lead single, Mr. Wolf's reimagined "Overture." This song epitomizes the lush, organic, and beautifully sparse tone of the 16-track release.

This album is ideal for both longtime, die-hard wolfpack members, as well as those who are new to the world of Patrick Wolf.

It's beautiful. The best of patrick wolf resides in these two discs. I'm always a sucker for artist that incorporate strings into there music. It's moody, and bright all wrapped together.
