Book Description

August 19, 2008

Capri, Lexi, Jermane, Angel, and Jewel are back with more mayhem and madness, and they are still trying to keep the faith!

Lexi has run off and eloped, cheating Jewel out of planning Lexi's wedding and shining the spotlight on Jewel's new event planning business. In the meantime, Jewel is delighted that her guy Kevin, a UPS delivery man, is moving on up into management.

Angel and her boyfriend, Octavio, have joined a new church and are trying to deal with their interracial relationship-but will differences in their faith draw them closer or pull them apart?

Jermane and her husband, Rex, are still together and thinking up new ways to keep their marriage fresh and hot despite Rex's workaholism and his wandering eye.

Lexi and Capri are getting ready to open their law firm, Reynolds and Stanton. Will their friendship survive their new business partnership?

Just when they think that everything has fallen into place, these five friends are forced to trust God as they find themselves in unexpected situations and facing new challenges. The Sunday Brunch Diaries explores what happens when your prayers are answered but you wind up getting a whole lot more than you bargained for.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Channeling Tyler Perry's tragicomic sensibility (there is even a Madea figure), Jarrett delivers the goods in this light, entertaining follow-up to Sunday Brunch. Five women, all lawyers and longtime friends, live the good life—both materially and spiritually—in Houston. Capri is an NBA wife who isn't thrilled with the limelight; Lexi is a newlywed; Jewel is dealing with baby mama drama; Angel has just begun attending Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church; and Jermane struggles to help her husband deal with a professional and personal crisis. While tragic circumstances ensue, Jarrett keeps the humor coming and always emphasizes God's power to redeem even the worst situations. Jarrett definitely does not disappoint readers who enjoy escaping into a world of beautiful people who wear designer clothes, eat at fashionable restaurants and live in luxury homes. While this novel is arguably by, for and about black women, a much wider audience is sure to delight in getting to know this fun group of Christian characters. (Sept. 9)

From Booklist

Five women who connected in law school continue to meet once a month for Sunday brunch, sharing faith and fellowship while they work through personal and career issues. Spoiled-brat Jewel is resentful of her husband’s continuing patience with his ex-wife, and socialite Jermane can’t understand her husband’s qualms at her father’s ethics. Newlywed Lexi juggles marriage and a law partnership with Capri, while Capri’s athlete husband exhibits puzzling behavior. Angel is vocal about her new-convert faith, pushing her boyfriend, Octavio, to attend church and make peace with his dying, formerly abusive father. Jarrett continues the faith explorations begun in Sunday Brunch (2004), contrasting Lexi’s journaled conversations with God with gossipy get-togethers at lavish restaurants, socialite parties, and church group sessions as the reader shares in the ups and downs of these lawyers’ daily lives. --Lynne Welch

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring!!, April 7, 2009

This book was extemely boring with too much dialogue and little character development. There are too many characters and the reader has to figure out which character is narrating the book. Save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Club Girl, February 4, 2009
This review is from: The Sunday Brunch Diaries (Paperback)
Sequels are sometimes difficult but Jarrett pulls it off with ease in this follow up to Sunday Brunch. Once again the five friends from law school are going through the trials and tribulations of life. What's great about this installment is the fact that you see each lady come into her own, maturing in ways appropriate for each of them. I was most impressed by Jewel who definitely becomes a lady in the true sense. Another great surprise is hearing from the men in this book in their own perspectives versus through the women. I was a little upset by some things in the book but I am almost sure we haven't heard the last from the five law school girls and I will be waiting in line to get my copy first. Jarrett rounds off her book with beautiful prayers and touching scriptures that actually made me think about my own walk with God. Third time was a charm and I could not put it down. Waiting for book four!

An inspirational read, but the author is a little over the top with her beliefs... too preachy.
