Boring!!,
By Minerva (New Yok City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sunday Brunch Diaries (Paperback)
This book was extemely boring with too much dialogue and little character development. There are too many characters and the reader has to figure out which character is narrating the book. Save your money.

Book Club Girl,
By Vanessa "Book Club Girl" (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews

Sequels are sometimes difficult but Jarrett pulls it off with ease in this follow up to Sunday Brunch. Once again the five friends from law school are going through the trials and tribulations of life. What's great about this installment is the fact that you see each lady come into her own, maturing in ways appropriate for each of them. I was most impressed by Jewel who definitely becomes a lady in the true sense. Another great surprise is hearing from the men in this book in their own perspectives versus through the women. I was a little upset by some things in the book but I am almost sure we haven't heard the last from the five law school girls and I will be waiting in line to get my copy first. Jarrett rounds off her book with beautiful prayers and touching scriptures that actually made me think about my own walk with God. Third time was a charm and I could not put it down. Waiting for book four!

An inspirational read, but the author is a little over the top with her beliefs... too preachy.

I didn't understand anything going on in this book, it didn't flow well. One minute you are here next you are there then next you are just plain confused. You dont know who is talking at any given time, and what they heck are the mad and talking about. If anyone want to give me some insite on WHAT THE HECK was going on in this book. Thats my new name for this book WHAT THE HECK!!!! The characters seem tooo old for what they wer going through.

I love the book, but I was expecting better quality. The book looked very used. In addition the shipping cost more than the book itself. I wasn't pleased with that either. If not for the author and the contents of this book I would be very disappointed. The Sunday Brunch Diaries

I purchased this book because I enjoyed "Sunday Brunch", Jarrett's earlier book, and I looked forward to the sequel. I usually enjoy Christian novels about women's friendships, and found the characters in the first book engaging and wanted to read more about them. I was somewhat disappointed with this effort because at times it read more like a defense of controversial minister Joel Osteen and his Houston mega-church than a true "novel"(One of the main characters and her boyfriend attend the church). The first book made some passing references to the church; this one definately ups the ante. Also, the ending of the book is completely over the top and feels rushed, as if Ms. Jarrett was trying to meet a deadline.
I think Norma Jarrett showed real promise in her first book, but this one doesn't live up to the previous one. |
