Let's say this up front - this is one of the best bluegrass albums made this year, and one the best live gospel albums ever made.

Rhonda Vincent's fans - a category in which I happily include myself - always love the gospel songs on her records and in her shows. They have been an important part of every album she has made since "Back Home Again", either as full-tilt bluegrass cuts or as superb harmony singing. It's a rare concert or festival performance that doesn't include "Fishers of Men", "Homecoming" or her recent classic "The Prettiest Flower There".

Now on her own label, Rhonda has finally made an entire album of gospel tunes with her band, The Rage. Appropriately, it's a live recording, made in the same church where she sang these songs in childhood. And it sounds like church, with spirits being lifted high by great songs, heartfelt singing, and outstanding picking by one of the best bands out there right now.

There are traditional hymns like "Old Rugged Cross", new songs like the stunningly lovely "Blue Sky Cathedral" (a personal favorite) and possibly the best version of the aforementioned "Prettiest Flower" that Rhonda has ever recorded. Her band provides outstanding support, especially in the voice-only "His Promised Land".

Many of us have waited a long time for this album, and had high hopes for it when she announced she was going to record it. Rhonda Vincent has exceeded our expectations with her finest record. It will lift your spirits and soothe your soul. It's one of the best bluegrass albums of 2012.

I have always been a fan of Rhonda's music, and her gospel music has always been the best whether it was on CD or listening to it in a concert/show setting. But with Sunday Mornin' Singin' ... something is seriously missing.

The production of Sunday mornin' Singin' is of much lesser quality. The CD has been mixed to overly highlight Rhonda's voice to the point that the spectacular harmony she has with her band, The Rage is lost and sounds muddly and 'off.' Even her voice sounds strained and over-worked. The increased volume of the applause at the end of each song seems obviously amplified in the mixing of the CD. And the usually phenominal instrumental aspect of the songs once again, is muddy and bland.

My wife said this is Rhonda promoting herself and these songs aren't good. They are 'uninspiring.' Even the traditional Just As I Am, and Old Rugged Cross just do not have anything but a promote Rhonda feel and are disappointing. I agree with her.

There are a few good points with all that said. Homecoming, Where No Cabins Fall, Prettiest Flower There and The Last Best Place are the stand outs. Yet, these cuts can be found in better condition on some of her previous CDs.

Since Rhonda has left her former recording company and formed her own, she has put out three CDs. The first, Taken was actually very good. The second, Your Money and My Good Looks was a terrible attempt to 'go country,' and now with her third attempt on her own label I wonder if the loss of pressure to produce higher quality music has allowed her to slip into a place where mediocre and less is acceptable.

I bought Sunday mornin' Singin' because I know how amazing Rhonda sounded singing gospel music. It will now be placed in the back of the CD cabinet or given away.

Sorry, but that's the way it sadly is.

As her voice has matured, Rhonda Vincent delivers her best CDs. The variety of gospel songs in this CD shows her range of voice. It demonstrates why is revered in the Bluegrass music field. A great gift ideal!!!

Very first cd we ever bought of Rhonda Vincent. Was just blown away with her beautiful voice. Is a must buy for those who like some good music, great harmony and a voice that sounds heavenly. Blue Sky Cathedral, His Promised Land and The Prettiest Flower There are just a few that I never heard before and now love. Taking a gamble on someone new and ending up loving almost all the songs is rare! Glad I did and will buy more of her. Thank you!
