4.0 out of 5 stars A Better Than Average Single, October 6, 2000
By
NOEL GALLAGHER "topofthepops" (Clermont, FL, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
Oasis 3rd single from their "Standing On The Shoulder of Giants" CD is better than average, although it could have been better. Let's start with the single itself. This studio version of "Sunday Morning Call" is grossly over-produced with too many warbled sound effects. It's too long, contains too much instrumentation, and just seems to really drag on by the end. If you don't believe me, listen to the acoustic version Noel performed on Radio One. This version is beautiful, as Noel's vocals make this a top-notch acoustic number. Bottom line: This is a great song with great lyrics that was ruined in production. It should have been released as a more sincere, acoustic ballad. Moving on, the b-sides "Carry Us All" and "Full On" are top notch, although "Full On" seems to be begging for Liam's more hard rock vocal styling. This is the first Oasis single in which Noel sings all the tracks, and it just doesn't seem like an Oasis single without at least one "Liammed" track. "Carry Us All" is an excellent track with some of Noel's best lyrics to date. "Full On" sums up the third track, as it really is a "full on" rock track. Surprisingly, however, Noel has managed to incorporate a catchy tune and great lyrics into a song that screams "hard rock". Again, the only thing missing on this track is Liam. As usual, however, Oasis have proven that their b-sides are at least as good as their album tracks, if not better. Why else would an American spend [the money] for an import CD that contains only 3 songs?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Oasis Single, April 15, 2004

This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
Sunday Morning Call once again shows that Oasis can make great singles. More of the songs have a spiritual theme to them and all the songs on this single are song by Noel.

Sunday Morning Call is a decent song. It is a little long and seems to drag at times. I agree with the guy who said they overproduced it with the sounds. This is a song that would have been better off song by Liam. It's still a decent song though.

Carry Us All to me is the reason to pick this jewel up. It's such an amazing song. I love the ending line in the chorus "have faith in what you got and it will Carry Us All, Carry Us All." Thats a beautiful line in a beautiful song. Noel sings about some of the hyprocrites you find in religion and he plainly states his beliefs. This song is vintage Oasis with a catchy chorus and great guitar rifts.

Full On is another song where Noel tells you how it's going to be. I have respect for someone who tells you whats on his mind. The distortion in this song bothers me sometimes. It reminds me to much of the Swamp Song. It's cool to hear Noels song through the distortion. I love the beat to this song though and the chorus is cathcy. This song is pretty rare and this is the only place to get it.

Sunday Morning Call is a great Oasis single. It's the only place to pick these three songs up and is a must for any Oasis collector and collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a shame Noel doesn't sing more..., September 21, 2003
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
I don't understand how anyone can possibly think Liam is a better singer than Noel, but that's the beauty of opinions, right? The single "Sunday Morning Call" is a lovely ballad sung with incredible emotion by Noel; there's no way Liam could sing this song as beautifully as Noel! The lyrics are lovely and I think this is one of my favourite Oasis songs. If only Noel would sing more...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best from the new album, July 26, 2000
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
The first totally Liam free Oasis ep finally arrives. Sunday Morning Call, despite getting some mediocre reviews is actually the best of the three released so far. It has an honest quality to it which is absent in most Noel Gallagher tunes but like many of Oasis greatest moments it manages to be saddening while at the same time sounds very inspirational. "When you're lonely and you start to hear the little voices in your head at night" is a great line which is really the heart of the song. Noel touches upon his exhaustion with Oasis while also alluding to his drug use. Nice. "Sunday Morning Call" doesn't feature any of the silly lyrics of "Go Let it Out" or the faux spirituality of "Who Feels Love." Rather it is just honest and beautiful. Definitley for "Don't Look Back in Anger" fans.

B-side "Carry Us All" is another highlight. Typcial mid-paced Noel stuff. Sounds exactly like most of his other recent b-sides like "One Way Road," "Flashbax", Cigarettes in Hell" (minus the mellatron) and unreleased "Solve My Mystery." You can see where this is going a mile away but it is still good. Noel's new big thing seems to be pondering on God as he know does it in every third song. Still great.

The third track on the single is loud and abbrassive and actually proves that Noel really hasn't been able to right any all out rockers since "Definitley Maybe." Those who argue that this song is genius are really just praising it for the sake of it being Oasis. It is dull and average and needs Liam.

A great package because of the first two.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Liam Gallagher Call, July 8, 2000
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
This is a superb CD but where the hell is Liam Gallagher on any of the songs.Liam would have sounded perfect for the B-side Full On which captures some of the brilliance of Definatly Maybes rock 'n' Roll sound. Its not much point putting Oasis on the cover as Noels the only one that features on it.He should have released this as a Noel Gallagher recording.

Anyway the highlight of these three epic tracks is Carry Us All which is quite beutiful and should have appeared on SOTSOG

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Standing High, September 16, 2000

Forget about all the criticisms, Oasis are still the best band around. Their music is far more developed than any other act around, except Richard Ashcroft. Forget Robbie Williams and his foppish pop efforts, Oasis are this years big act.

Sunday Morning Call is a beautifully tender ballad and is one of the best tracks on the new album. The song just seems to flow along and Noel is the right man for the vocals, leave Liam to the heavy stuff like Gas Panic!. A superb effort from the lads.

Carry Us All is another fantastic b-side. It is true that a lot of the Oasis b-sides are better than the album tracks, not that the album tracks are bad but the b-sides are better. Let's All Make Believe, Cigarettes In Hell and Carry Us All should all have been on the album. Carry us all is another ballad sort of, but is a bit more high tempo than Sunday Morning Call. Again the track just flows along and has some excellent lyrics. In my view, this is the best b-side from the latest album.

Full On is another good b-side. It may not be brilliant but when you consider the quality of the first two tracks, you don't really mind about the third not being quite as good. That is the beauty of Oasis. Other groups just have live tracks, acoustics or remixes of previous song where as Oasis put time and effort into their b-sides.

Unfortunitly, this single wasn't as popular with the British public and for Oasis to score more number one's then they really must release Where Did It All Go Wrong? as their next single. Not that any of the other songs are bad, I just feel that WDIAGW? would be more popular with the public. But for now, Oasis have come up with 10 great album tracks and 6 superb b-sides this year. Keep up the good work.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sound of a Noel solo career? Sounds good., March 29, 2001

After putting together perhaps the greatest string of EPs ever (yes, even better than the Smiths) between "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and "Don't Look Back in Anger", Oasis was bound to have a slowdown, which unfortunately lasted through all of the "Be Here Now" and the first two "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" EPs. However, this, the final installment of the SOTSOG EPs is a true return to form for Oasis - and, ironically, it succeeds in Liam Gallagher's absence. Both "Sunday Morning Call" and "Carry Us All" showcase brother Noel's newfound musical and lyrical maturity, and "Full On" rocks as hard as anything the band has ever released. If this were to end up as Oasis' final hour (heaven forfend), it would be a fine end. Not as fine as disbanding after Knebworth, but graceful nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars You like "Don't look back in anger"? You'll love this single, September 29, 2000
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
As always, Oasis have created another classic, "Sunday Morning Call". It's amazing to listen Noel's voice; he got so much feeling (he can make you cry). But the thing with this single is that it have another wonderful song "Carry Us All". "Full On" should be sung by Liam, but nothing is perfect, and Noel made a great job on that song. This single is just another proof that Oasis will never die and soon they will become legends. MAD FER IT!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best track from the album but not the best b-sides yet, July 23, 2000

Damon Navas-Howard (Santa Rosa, CA USA) - See all my reviews

"Sunday Morning Call" is most likely the best track on the new album. From the start of the song you already know its a song and has that acoustic-paul-wellar-ballad feel but now it has a full force sound. It hits you hard wanting more and "Carry Us All" creeps up. Another Noel Gallagher ballad which almost sounds like an echo of "Where did it all go wrong?" giving us that if we all work together it will be ok feeling. Too bad the gallaghers didn't look to their own lyrics fore advice. Sadly though the single falls at "Full On" which even for the new material is too far off and leaves the single on a bad note instead of uplifting. "Go Let It" however remains the best b-sides from "Standing on The Shoulder Of Giants".

5.0 out of 5 stars SINGLE #3 FOR THE #1 BAND IN HISTORY, January 31, 2001
By
This review is from: Sunday Morning Call (Audio CD)
Sunday Morning Call is the third single for the UK's biggest and best band since the beatles. The first NOEL based single is one of Oasis's best. The title track obviously appears on the new album "standing on the shoulder of giants" and plays the same. If your a true OASIS fan you will get tossed into a dream state with the lyrics. They are incredible. Noel is truly one great singer and a fabulous songwriter. Carry us all is Awesome as well. Noels voice proves he could surley make in with a solo career, and as much as that would be great..no one could live in a world without the band OASIS. Full on is not your typical NOEL single. The music is loud, and the electric guitars are soaring. As for his voice, is he trying to sound like Liam?? He pulls it off, and the song sounds as much like rock and roll as any other. GREAT SONGS GREAT BAND.. We look forward to more new stuff in the future. LIVE LONG OASIS
