As a "cradle Catholic," I grew up with some of these stories, but had forgotten many over the years...I recently found this book and it was like getting reacquainted with an old friend! The stories are very readable and engaging. I also purchased a copy of this book for my Godson, who will be confirmed in the faith this coming October. This book is a great find for anybody interested in learning more about some of the saints (ancient and more modern) which help to make up this wonderful tradition, the Church.

Reading this book a little at a time is best for me. Each story/chapter speaks to a subject which requires reflection. Why? Because each character presented is an individual, a believeable person, someone you would like to meet, question, interview, or simply listen to their voice.Very good reading format. Great intro to each story. Excellent commentary for each character.

Chicken Soup for Catholics,
By Tim Drake "Author and Journalist" (Saint Joseph, Minnesota) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Our Sunday Visitor's Treasury of Catholic Stories (Hardcover)
If you like the Chicken Soup books or William Bennett's Book of Virtues then you will enjoy Our Sunday Visitor's Treasury of Catholic Stories. These are stories to be read to our children and cherished. Many are familiar; others are not. Readers will find stories on St. Francis of Assisi, St. Patrick, Dorothy Day, and Cardinal Bernardin. Each of the 125 stories serves to illustrate a specific Catholic teaching such as the cardinal virtues, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, or the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. If you are attempting to teach the faith to your children this book belongs on your mantle. |
