5.0 out of 5 stars Fine sampler
I own two other Windham Hill samplers (Touch [Guitar] and Windows [Piano]), as well as some of their artists' individual recordings. This is easily the best of the piano samplers I've heard. The title led me to believe these were going to be romantic, slower-speed songs, but in fact they are upbeat and pleasantly bright--much more so than "Windows".

3.0 out of 5 stars Sundown is setting gently.
I bought sundown without any reason except I like piano piece solos. I found some of the songs very soothing. A few of its tracks are hard to enjoy due to discordant chords. Otherwise it was a strong set of modern jazz and soft new age songs.

As with other Windham Hill samplers, I think you'll be surprised at how much the individual artists shine in their own rights: these pieces will not all blend together. Before long you'll notice that you can identify the artists by style and not just by remembering melodies.

My favorite piece on the album is Jim Brickman's "Jesu," an improvisation on the Bach chorale on "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring." It is a perfect example of Windham Hill's lighthearted, slightly jazzy, but always respectful music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A collection of some of the best, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Sundown: A Windham Hill Piano Collection (Audio CD)
Another chance to hear a compilation of some of the best Windham Hill pianists. Wonderful as always to hear Liz Story and a chance to add to my collection of her music the track 'The Sounding Joy'. With its cheerful precision it will lift your spirits on the most grey of days. Another excellent track on this compilation is 'For the Asking' by John R Burr - there is just not enough of his piano playing available

This is a beautiful collections of piano solos perfect those who are pianists looking for music to inspire them (like myself) or for those who simply love relaxing piano music. I love the fact that the songs are performed by several different composers, giving the recording a nice variety, but would have to say that the songs performed by Jim Brickman ("Jesu" and the title track "Sundown") are definitely my favorites. But then, I am a little partial to the music of Jim Brickman....:-)Anyway, I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who loves piano music!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Piano peace, September 20, 2009

I purchased this for quiet background music at my work desk and that's exactly what I got. It helps me ignore the background chaos, yet is unobtrusive. It offers wonderful piano pieces played skillfully, something I have always preferred. Windhan Hill collections have never disappointed me and this is one of the best I have purchased. Thanks Amazon.

I've always enjoyed Windham Hills and this Piano Collection is no exception! I can turn it on and just let it replay a few times before I switch to something else. I just love it!
