5.0 out of 5 stars best torque wrench for this price
i believe 10-80 ft/lbs range is ideal for the weekend shade-tree auto mechanic. i used this wrench for suspension, brakes and minor engine work. overall very pleased, has a solid feel to it. not the best torque wrench i've seen so far but much better than that auto store loaner tools. i expect to use it for a long time. keep in mind that torque wrenches are not meant to...

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed its not marked in Newton-meters
Contrary to the previous reviewer, this wrench is NOT marked in Nm (Newton-meters). Rather, it's marked in ft-lbs and m-Kgs. While that means it's technically both metric and SAE, the metric scale that is listed in all of auto manuals is Nm.

The construction of the wrench appears decent and it feels good, but I don't want to have to consult a...

5.0 out of 5 stars No Ft-Lb Calibration, May 12, 2007

Seems to work well for it's intended use. For the price, it's great. I haven't used it much, but the shorter length makes it more convenient to use than a full size torque wrench. Only peeve is that it is calibrated in Newton-Meters and Meter-Kilograms, but most torque specs are now in metric, and conversion is easy.

This review is from: Sunex International 9702A 3/8-inch Torque Wrench with Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool is well made, graduated in SAE and metric, and comes with case and manual. I bought it for working on my motorcycle.

The case is excellent, as it contains moulded slots for extensions and adapters as well. Buy a 3/8"-1/2' adapter with it!

The manual is obviously a literal translation but does the job well, by explaining the theory behind the use of a torque-wrench, and includes conversion formulae and calculations for use of an extension.

Have not had it long enough to test its durability, but the tool seems of good construction. I have had enough bad tools to know...

The construction of the wrench appears decent and it feels good, but I don't want to have to consult a torque-conversion table every time I tighten something. So I may just end up sending this back and try to fine another 3/8" marked in Nm. Too bad... it appears to be a good product.

I got this thing so fast through the mail it maid my head spin ! I work on the side doing brake jobs most of the time and I like to torque everything to spec so I had to get one and sense I would have paid three times this price at the local craftsman store I had to get it. It is very accurate as I have a torque wrench maching at work to check the shops torque wrenches. It's a very nice tool for whatever country that made it LOL! Thanks Amazon you never fail me when it comes to delivery you guys do a great job !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent TQ Wrench, April 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sunex International 9702A 3/8-inch Torque Wrench with Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used TQ wrench from such names as MAC, Snap-On, and so on. For the price it is DEF. a good TQ wrench. Rebuilt my entire Harley using this TQ wrench.
I have no clue why some buyers are having trouble with High TQ settings. There is a knob that needs to be loosened in order to adjust the TQ... Maybe they didn't realize this, or maybe the knob tightened back when they were adjusting the TQ and didn't notice it, or possibly they are unaware on how to properly use a TQ wrench, such as releaseing the tension on the spring when not using the TQ wrench.

Technicians: This should NOT be purchased for use in a shop or dealership, it is not HIGH enough quality. The spring inside doesn't seem it will stay accurate for a long period of time, and may need calibration after constant use. But for an extra TQ wrench to keep in your personal garage, it is def. worth it in my opinion. Nice case as well.

I suggest taking it apart and lubricating it, with a high quality tool lubricant. It def. made the tool twice as good.(I dont recommend doing this unless you have a TQ wrench calibration tool)

Hope this clarified some of the issues the other reviews are talking about.

I gave it a 5/5 because of the quality vs. price. Not on a stand alone quality rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pure trash....., July 28, 2011
This review is from: Sunex International 9702A 3/8-inch Torque Wrench with Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
This thing broke after the third use. After buying it I tested its accuracy against my friends 300.00 Mac torque wrench. It was off about 5 pounds. I figured as long as I knew it and compensated I could use it. Just not on anything important.

Now the lock broke on it so it wont hold a setting. I should of known better to by foriegn precision tools. Any precision tool is costly for a reason. Trust this P.O.S. installing a lawnmower blade and you might end up loosing a foot. But its your loss.
I'm only buying American tools from now on. Guess I better get them a.s.a.p. Torque wrenches have a life cycle. Every time it clicks its a cycle. Heres the way I see it.

This thing lasted around 60-80 nuts.
so,lets say 80 cycles at a total cost of 35.00

A Snap-on,Proto or Mac will last about 50,000 to 80,000 cycles for 300.00-- 50,000-80,000 nuts...
You have to buy 9 of these foriegn junkies for the 300.00 but then you get to tighten up about 720 nuts yup,720 cycles maybe? ...do the math. Even if they make it to 1000 cycles its only a fraction of what U.S. made torque wrenches do.

Off by 5 pounds new, lasted 3 {really 2 1/2} uses and could cost you a foot and bleed to death? What a deal!

The calibration is off by a wild margin. I used this wrench it to install a cylinder head, and ended up almost blowing the engine. It was showing 11 ft lbs, but when I checked with another torque wrench, the torque was 16 ft lbs. I thought it is due to the torque being in the low range (this wrench is rated up to 80 ft lbs) so I gave it another chance. I used it to tighten a flywheel nut spec'ed at 33 ft lbs. I never got this wrench to click, while I tightened the nut almost as tight as I got it with an impact wrench! Bottom line: do not use this wrench if the job requires any accuracy at all!

Arrived with free shipping almost before I ordered it... second day. For use with standard threading. Short handle and lower possible settings make this ideal for the shadetree mechanic. Easy to adjust and gives clear feedback. Great for spark plugs.

Used this torque wrench for the rebuild of my 95 honda civic in my home garage. Worked great! Smooth operation, easy to read graduated scale FT LB/NM, and a handy case.
