4.0 out of 5 stars Sunflower Guides: Turkish coast - Antalya to Demre, April 28, 2009

This review is from: Sunflower Guide Turkish Coast Antalya to Demre (Sunflower Guides) (Sunflower Guides Turkish Coast: Antalya to Demre) (Paperback)
Bought this book for a spring 2009 trip to Turkey. Great source of information if you like to spend some time outdoors and get away from the cities. Has recommendations for hikes of varying difficulty and length along the westerly sections of the Turquoise Coast, accompanied by descriptions of ruins that may happen to be along the way. The maps are fairly clear, and accompanied by detailed route descriptions. Recommendations for food and lodging are also provided.
There is not much else out there available in the US that provides this kind of information for this part of the world. I had to wait a bit to get the book shipped in from England via a bookstore, but it was well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting Lost in Olympos, April 23, 2011

This review is from: Sunflower Guide Turkish Coast Antalya to Demre (Sunflower Guides) (Sunflower Guides Turkish Coast: Antalya to Demre) (Paperback)
I really liked this guide...it offers a lot of information about smaller, less visited sites. The walks are nice, and it seems that the authors have actually explored all the trails that they describe. Some of the walks in this book are not official trails, but just walks that the authors have put together. They may include dirt roads, marked trails, unmarked trails, or paths through orchards.

I did one of the walks out of Olympos, up to the lost city. Following the trail was difficult because most of it was unmarked, and the extremely detailed descriptions in the book are all that saved me. Also, the forest I was supposed to be walking through was in the process of being logged, so the trail/dirt road was very very hot. Again, the route descriptions are detailed, and kept me on track even though some things have changed.
