5.0 out of 5 stars On what makes a romance
If this book were a movie, it would be "R" rated, so for those who like their romances "sweet," this is not a romance.

There are, however, many readers who like their love stories a little more graphic. The sex in this book is not terribly graphic (a little racier than "Dances with Wolves") and it is beautifully written. Some people (and I am one of them)...

1.0 out of 5 stars Way too much graphic sex
I got this book for my kindle and had read others from this author before. I also thought she was a Christian author, it surprised me that there was graphic sex in the book. I never finished the book and would not recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars On what makes a romance, September 10, 2011
This review is from: Sunflower (Kindle Edition)
If this book were a movie, it would be "R" rated, so for those who like their romances "sweet," this is not a romance.

There are, however, many readers who like their love stories a little more graphic. The sex in this book is not terribly graphic (a little racier than "Dances with Wolves") and it is beautifully written. Some people (and I am one of them) believe that sex is part of love and don't mind reading it in a romance novel. Others avoid it.

For myself, I love this book It has a wonderful love story, amazing descriptions and a good mystery in it. It is one of my all-favorite romances and the scene in which Caleb comes upon Analissa's soddy is just amazing. I will never forget it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, September 9, 2011

I read this at the recommendation of a friend and enjoyed the story very much. Whenever I read about the difficulties the early settlors of the United States faced, I feel appreciation for their struggles and their incredible stamina in trying to survive. Those struggles are well depicted in this story. The main character, Analisa, is a woman who has survived a horrible tragedy. She is a strong, clever and hardworking woman.
I feel that the romance between Analisa and her husband is quite lovely. My preference for sexual scenes is that they be left to one's imagination. There are a few explicit scenes in the book but they are not offensive. That said, the growing love between the couple makes for an especially enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written American-Western romance story!, September 10, 2011
This review is from: Sunflower (Paperback)
I simply loved this book! I have never been able to put down a book written by Jill Marie Landis until I have finished it, and this book is no exception. It is a love story about a part-Sioux Indian man named Caleb, and a Dutch woman named Analese, and the prejudices they had to endure. Jill's description of the soddie they lived in and the surrounding area were so good, I felt like I had been there. The love scenes were tastefully done, as they are in all her books. I highly recommend this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too steamy for me, May 19, 2011

I have read several of Jill Landis' books and loved them. I liked the story line in this book. However, I thought she was considered a Christian author. The descriptions of sex were not needed nor appreciated by me. I would not want my young girls to read this book, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is not a Romance, April 6, 2004
This review is from: Sunflower (Paperback)
This book is misclassified as a romance. The two main characters fall in love and marry very early in the book. The plot of the book centers around American Indian peace negotiations. I became very bored reading the book and had to force myself to finish.

The author of the book writes very touching romance novels, but this is not one of them. Pass this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story, September 10, 2011
This review is from: Sunflower (Kindle Edition)
When Sunflower 1st came out, I was a bookseller and enjoyed letting my readers know about this book. I never had a disappointed customer and I loved it when they came back to talk about the book. I have kept all of her books in my personal libary and enjoy going back and revisiting the trials and tribulations her characters present. Some say it is not a romace, but I see it as the best kind of romance...lasting.
