Looking for the perfect book for kids to understand the concept of 'how a seed grows'...? This one is great, and shows the development of the seeds, from beginning to end while bright illustrations show what fun the garden brings home to the little boy who grew his own 'sunflower house' and shared it with others. 3.0 out of 5 stars My daughter thought it was boring...I think it is intended for younger kids
My daughter is into gardening in a huge way and loves to read books. She started the Junior Master Gardener courses last year and this book was on their suggested reading list for kids. I think that perhaps it is meant for a much younger audience than my daughter. She is 8-years old and she could not get into it. About half way into it she proclaimed it boring and put it...

Looking for the perfect book for kids to understand the concept of 'how a seed grows'...? This one is great, and shows the development of the seeds, from beginning to end while bright illustrations show what fun the garden brings home to the little boy who grew his own 'sunflower house' and shared it with others. How one seed can grow into a plant that supplies even more seeds to sow, and bring pleasure not only for one season, but many seasons thereafter that others may enjoy as well.

I absolutely love this concept book. My preschool children love it too. I have 4 & 5 year olds and this book is a great jumping off point to all sorts of Springtime themes! I have read many of Eve Bunting's books and all are wonderful; I highly recommend them all.

Beautiful pictures. I read this book to my 3 & 4 year old sons.

They thought it was really neat so we planted a sunflower house that spring. Even my 9 yr old son wanted in on the project. It was a great way to introduce not only the wonders of the plant growth process but also the responsibilty of caring for things that grow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Garden Book & Great Idea!, April 20, 2011
I love this book! This is an absolutely great book to share with children about gardening. It is also a really cute idea to do with your sunflowers at home. Great book for Spring and Summer for sure! It's a great way to show children about the life cycle of a sunflower. So cute!

My daughter is into gardening in a huge way and loves to read books. She started the Junior Master Gardener courses last year and this book was on their suggested reading list for kids. I think that perhaps it is meant for a much younger audience than my daughter. She is 8-years old and she could not get into it. About half way into it she proclaimed it boring and put it down in favor of another book. However, I give it 3 stars because I personally thought the book was cute. I was a little disappointed in the illustrations. I was hoping they would be more vibrant. I think that would have helped maintain interest. I would recommend this for no older than a 6-year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars "circle of life", December 7, 2010

I was looking specifically for a sunflower book for children, and the great reviews of this beautiful book helped me make the decision to purchase. The illustrations are striking and the moral of the "circle of life" is recognized by even the youngest child. Overall, a lovely book for boys and girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imagine what Sunflowers can do., October 1, 2009

This is the perfect book to take to a young school class to read and then hand out sunflower seeds. Better yet, have the students plant sunflowers in a paper cup with soil to take home. Good Mom.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 4-year-old daughter's favorite book, August 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We stumbled across this wonderful story at the library one day and checked it out. It was THE book to read at bedtime every single night for the three weeks we had it. She loves the idea of having a place to go with friends where parents are not allowed...and couldn't fit into if they were allowed.

My daughter was SO upset when it was time for it to go back to the library that I bought a copy. Then we read it every night for the next three weeks. While she doesn't have to read it every night now, she still loves it.
